15 years s/e and I've never bought a new suite and put it through the books but then again I never get invited anywhere!

That tells a story ;D

He'll say no unless your business name is on it ie. work wear.

Unless you purchase it through a corporate clothing company  ;) ........ could always throw in a shirt with name embroidered on breast pocket......... ;D
I have a few for exhibitions, networking and collecting awards ....... the whole invoice will go through  ::)

According to my accountant you can buy a suit as long as it's for business use even if it's not from a workwear company.

Double check with your own accountant and if he says you have to go for workwear. Do a search for prima. There a workwear company who do suits.

nearly every item of clothing I buy is put through the books, I spent £350 on some new walking boots and jacket at the weekend, this will be going through the books ( Ill wear them when I'm leafleting ;) )

I'm an ambassador of my company 24-7 so what ever I'm wearing is work clothes.

I was a bit miffed with the Mrs as her accountant puts her shoes through her books!

My accountant wouldn't let me put the 2 pairs of boots I wore out in 6 months delivering leaflets.

I think it depends on you accountant even though officially it's not allowed.

That seems great now but if the revenue ever did an investigation into your business and Im told its a lot more common nowadays you may get a big tax bill you wernt expecting.

Two local hotel owners have been found £5million in unpaid and avoiding taxes over the past few years.

If the inland revenue did a investigation into my business they would proberly have a whip round for me , all I seem to be doing is spending money not earning it . did a job for a lady today she asked was cash alright , 5 minutes later I was at the post office paying my water rates.

I must live on a different planet than you Mark

I've had a investigaton they are very very very very very very picky on the smallest things, a table cloths, shiny plate and cost hangers i bought for a client who was a designer, who was pushed finshing off a show house and that was picked up on, and even though had invioced reselling them on to her company, they stated this was suspicoue as we sold them at cost!  On the same bill was the cleaning job we where there to do, for over £700 and I  explained I drove her to the  store and she had forgot her purse so i paid with my business card and added it to her bill.

Result statement required from client and myself for something that happend 2 years previously. Investigation lasted 3 months and cost me £45 in erors and a accountants bill of £200. Aparently the VAT people are even worse!!!

My advice buy your own suit, than charge your company extra for quotations in it!
