Cream Carpet black roots
«

Today I insprcted a grubby carpet which is cream on top but when you look at the base pile in the traffic lanes they are black.
The base pile at the side of the carpet is cream.
Could the black be mould.
How many times would you go over the carpet to try to flush out the black roots.
Any suggestions

Ian,
Sounds to me like, they have done a diy job on the traffic lanes, Probably with a shampoo, probably overwetting and flushing (on more than one occasion) the top soil to the base of the pile and this has built up - very hard to fully remove, and to some extent anyway, will wick back to the top after extraction cleaning.

Could the carpet have been bonnet cleaned in the past, explaining the lack of soiling at the top of the fibres??

be careful I heard of a old cream carpet going green, it was caused by the duralay underlay breaking up and settling in the base. I would walk unless you get a disclaimer.........paul
