berber carpet
« on: October 18, 2004, 10:17:50 am »
I have gone and bought a 100% wool berber cream carpet! eeekkk ! Ialso have a toddler and a newborn and a dirty other half!! So maybe not hte best idea I have ever had. My problem is that we have a few black stain where the internet installer put his mucky knees! When i touch it wiht a cloth it goes almost fluffy like and all the fibres effectively come out?!?!?!?
I am desperate to clean
it but scared to worsen the problem. My mum and I had planned to buy a bissell cleaner between us and to sctoch guard with thsi - would that be ok?
any ideas of how I clean spots in the meantime - much appreciated!
Love Abi x

personnally if i had paid to have a quality carpet fitted and the fitter was to leave marks on the carpet i would not attempt to remove stains myself i would get in touch with the fitter and leave in his hands to sort out also on any stain on any carpet do not rub it with a cloth as this may and will damage the pile of the carpet always blot a stain!
Have you any idea what the black marks are?

It was a fitter from cable who was fitting my internet rsther than the carpet fitter - who was great. I assume it was soil as he had been messing with cables iin the garden. Would a machine such as a bissel machine work on this type of carpet without damaging it? I am happy to hire in a professional who could scotchguard as well if i could fine a appropiate company. Thankyou for your help

Hi Abi

And welcome to Clean It Up.

The problem you have described belongs to the cable company. Contact them and let them sort it to your satisfaction. Don't touch the stain yourself. If the cable company ask for you to sort it yourself, and they will pay you back, it may be wise to have that in writing. You could contact the National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA) on 0116 271 9550 and they will provide the numbers of 3 members in your area. Alternatively, you could post here again with your town and there may be a CIU member close by.

If you want the carpet protected it will require cleaning in the correct way too.

Safe and happy cleaning:)

as Ken says above, don't touch it your self and definitely do not use a Bex Bissell on it.

If what you have is a real Berber then it will be susceptible to colour bleeding from alkaline cleaners, this is because true Berbers are not dyed but are naturally pigmented.

We often see true Berbers suffering from cellulosic browning due to incorrect cleaning methods a Bissell type cleaner will not only cause colour damage but will also fuzz the pile.

Call in a professional, pay him and recoup your money from the guy who caused the damage.

Don’t do anything call (phone get there name) NTL who instated it and get there authorisation be it by fax or in writing.

They may have a designated cc in your area, so if you call anyone to clean the carpet, be it an ncca member or not (this is no disparity to the ncca members) they may not pay up, re protection they wont pay for this, as it was not done in the first place.

Host Dry Clean with the softest brushes (gold).  You may to call the nearest Host Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaner in your area.  Host is approved by the Wool Association and has been apporved by over 100 carpet manufactures and fiber mills worldwide.

If you are interested in a professional cleaner in your area leave a post with your contact information and I'll be happy to email it to you.

I hope this helps,

I concur with the previous advice that the problem lies with the Company who 'put' the stains on the carpet in the first place.
Any other steps to remove by any other person will immediately move the responsibility for the problem to that person... "the last one to touch it principal" applies
