water patterns
« on: September 19, 2007, 08:04:07 pm »
Mystery is, sometimes when you rinse off with wfp the water cascades down beautifully, yet other times it seems to defy gravity, and you get 2 very small spots of water struggling to grow in size, and almost going upwards. It doesnt seem to matter if its old or new glass, and sometimes separate   windows in the same frame react differently. Can anyone explain this :o :o

yes, some glass is aquaphopic ( water doesnt sheet ) and aquaphillic ( water sheets ). It is due to the way the glass is made, like teflon pans make water bead, while on most surfaces it doesnt, Luke

Hydrophobic and hydrophilic glass. Hope I've got the big words right ;D Basically water hating and water loving, hence the streaming and the sheeting.

I find most of my houses bead.

I'm glad of that because it's far more consistent.
I love it when it repels it like "water off a duck's back"  :)
Works every time, and it's quicker. ;)

I've never done a poor job on a window that beads in that way.
I've found a few sheeting windows have left dirt though.

When it sheets you can't tell if it's totally pure left on it, because it's just one big flood.

Takes longer to dry too.

I think you're right Sqeaky, I,m amazed how I seem to go from one type of glass to the other on the same house or especially conservatories. It's like when they were built they used any glass they could get.

Really?? Whats the secret? The ones I have most problem with on my round are the beading ones!  :-\

Me too,the cascading water seems like it's really flushing the dirt off of the window.

Squeaky that water off a ducks back effect is caused by a product put on by the fitters,i do some houses now that were all built by the same property devleloper and all 5-6 of these houses had a builders clean by the same blokes. When you pole these window`s they almost dry straight away the water looks like it`s dissolving on the glass,it would be well worth the effort of trad cleaning all your houses with this product first as the window`s on these houses bead like mad but come up absolutley spotless everytime.

With beading glass i hardly ever rinse and have no problems at all,it`s impossible to rinse beading glass properly, theres no way you would know if  you`ve chased down every bit of dirt on beading glass anyway. With beading glass it`s harder cos you have to scrub more just to be certain.

No it`s not selfcleaning glass, far from it Dave. It`s all to do with the cleaner that they applied by hand at the start,it leaves a shiny film on the glass which is bliss for us WFPolers. When cleaning this type of glass you can be even quicker still with the pole than you would be doing other type window`s with the pole.It would be as i said in another post well worth the bother of cleaning all your houses by hand with this product prior to WFP.

It`s is silicon based plain old glass cleaner that they normally sell in double glazing showrooms-shops,it leaves a shiny like film on the glass try it you`ll be tempted to trad all your houses with it and then go back to poleing them.

So how would you explain a house or conservatory, newish, brand new or old that has windows that are all randomley different, i.e. one pane beads & one don't? even right next to each other!

Some glass as you know beads, when it has had this stuff applied to it it beads but in a different way,the beads run off the window like water runs off a boiling pan.The water dosen`t dry any quicker it`s just repelled off the glass in the same fashion,if you do modern house cleans you must have the odd house at least that does this.

not too sure what you mean dude but i think i know, i do a particular (new build) house & all the windows are different, some bead, some bead even more, some dont bead, some only bead round the edges & sheet in the middle. ???
