It sounds to me that the switch on top of the pump has burned out, you need a replacement switch.  The switch is housed in the plastic casing which is held on with the 3 screws on top of the pump.

If it looks ok and your switch as Peter said is ok, then check for a broken wire at the point where you touch it, this can be caused by Vibration  of the pump when in use.

TIP
If the cable looks like it has a good connection at the pump and your connection to the battery is good, when you wobble the wire and it cuts out and then starts again, this is a sure sign of a broken wire.

Check the fuse holder as well , they tend to corrode inside the blue connector.

The symptoms of a burn out switch are the same as a broken wire, when you touch the wire the pump will come on and go off.

You won't see anything wrong with the switch from the outside, although sometimes you will see browning on the white terminal.

I am 99% certain your switch has gone.
