Hi all,
Ive been to quote for a large rug 4 metres by 3 metres (ish)  On the label it has   "heatset weavelon"    polyolefin. The backing is cotton and jute. The cost of the rug was £500.00. should I  be as wary as i would if it were polypropelene with a natural backing...ie shrinkage? thanks in advance

Hi Ollie

Polyolefin refers to polyethylene and polypropylene as ethylene and propylene are olefins.
In this case it would be PP as PE is not used for carpets.

Heatset is a clue, obviously not too hiigh a temp.

Should be easy to clean , prespray , agitate , extract temp say 45c using minimum water.

I would use my BW technique which is to spray above carpet then extarct so that water is not forced into the backing.

if it is' polyolefin' it must be a big rug to cost £500 most are cheep & nasty, so what if it does shrink an inch or so, will they notice

most just crinkle up a bit.

Mike, It is a pretty big rug, it fills most of the living room. Ive already shrunk one rug and I dont intend to shrink another!!

Yes I do because I prespray and agitate first, and PP is easy to clean as the dirt doesn't stick very well, no sites to bond to .

If the carpet / rug is proving to be stable then I may put the wand on the dirtier bits, it's about being cautious initially.

How did you shrink a rug ?

In my experience when a rug shrinks it normally goes wavy and dosent flatten ahain without stretching

paul it was a while ago ..it was a wool wilton..ive just checked my records it was a handmade carpets ltd.. royal keshan  chi chi. I still dont know why it shrank
