Did you know that you can use Ion exchange resin instead of mb400, when your TDS starts going up you simply flush through with softening salt, watch your TDS fall back down to zero.  Something the manufacturers would like to keep a secret.  ;)

spencer it is softner resin which you can recharge with salt and this will not produce pure enough water on its own to clean windows with. resins which bring the tds down have to be charged with two different types of acid.

Brodex supply Ion exchange resin as MB 400, when we used to have our systems, this is what we did, without any problems, we did flush after the salt had gone through for about forty minutes.

there are different types of ion exchange resins,  resins which can be recharged with salt are water softners they work by taking the ions which form scale  out of the water but it replaces (or exchanges) them with salt ions these salt ions then need to be removed via a ro filter for window cleaning purposes.

The resin which most people think of (like that advertised here) does not release salt when it attracts the ions we do not want in the water it releases positive hydrogen ions (h) and negative hydroxyl ions (ho) which then combine to produce h2o (more  water). this type of resin cannot be recharged using salt it can only be recharge useing two different acids which restore its original ions.

softener resin which can be recharged is useful for improving the life of ro membranes mixed bed resin is used for "polishing" the water after it has passed through the ro.

the resin which you mentioned MB 400 is a  mixture of strong acid cation resin with a  strong-base anion resin and is not a softener and needs to be recharged with acids not salt.

please check your advice because it could lead people to wasting their money buying salt and wasting resin by flushing salt through it in the belief that it will be recharged. i agree with you that some resin can be recharged with salt but not the one advertised or the ones which most people use or are familiar with or the MB 400 which you mentioned.

The resin that I originally refer to is Ion Exchange Resin, we used Ion Exchage Resin in the final filtration process (polishing) as well as pre RO,, the resin was then recharged after its 2-4% filtration process, the TDS usually crept up after 4-5 months.

We originally had these systems in 1998, and when ordering MB400 from Brodex, received Ion Exchange resin. When I challenged them, they said that they always supply this as polishing resin? Anyway, we started to use it, and then recharge, this worked PERFECTLY, thus saving money.

Does this make it any clearer?
