My days as an employee
« on: July 31, 2007, 08:23:22 pm »

Hi Guys,

I was just thinking back to my days as an employee and I was wondering what you lot think about this. This is a topic that still gets to me when I think about it but here goes. I used to do about 20 stores a day somerfields, kwik saves, abbey's, bradfords. I used to have 97 a week on my list, I left at 6am and got in at about 4pm everyday in 4 years I had about 3-4 days off sick 2 being when my grandad died( although I got told "I was taking the p!ss" for having 2 days off when he died ) but then I started getting tesco's on my sheets and b&q's which were 2 hour jobs in and out although I was told they took 1/2 an hour. I really tried to get them all in but ended up phoning my boss to say there was too much on my plate i.e about 12-14 hours a day. Which was ignored in the end I packed my job in because of this. Would you think i was taking the p!ss or would you love to have an employee like this in your ranks.

The day I left. I started out as normal. Then got a phone call from boss saying " Lad hurt himself about 20 miles away from you, could you take him home." So I went picked him up then took him to his house about 15 miles away then drove about 30 miles back to were I was working. As soon as I got there got another phone call " Can you shoot to Manchester and do a store up there." Give me the address but I didn't have a sat nav just issued road atlas. Anyway gets there does store then shoots off and does my own work until about 3pm then shoots back the office. On way to office boss phones me and says " Thank you very much for doing such a good job, you've just landed me a contract of 200 stores." So gets back to the office and gets asked "Is this all you've done off your sheet?" I replied " Well I did take that lad home and done that store." Me boss turns round and says " but I don't pay you for that I pay you for your sheets."

I hit the roof and told him were to stick his job. Then I started with my own houses and after a few weeks area mangaers for the store heard I'd left and asked me if I fancied doing a few stores for them. I now mainly do commercial which I'm happy about.

I wish my previous hadn`t got itchy feet at 1o`clock,i just want someone who can give me an 8 hr day without looking like they want to go home.I made the mistake when working trad of finishing at about 2 o`clock, when i had days when i needed to work longer they would act like they were giving you overtime. As most know when working WFP you can easily put iin an 8hr day no problem the time flys when working WFP,from now on new employees will be told that providing the weathers fine knock off time will be at least 4.00 and if we have days finishing early through bad weather maybe later sometimes,i`m fed up with being mr nice guy when it comes to employing it comes back and bites you in the bum.
