Silk Miracles!
« on: July 12, 2007, 06:11:29 am »
I saw Nathan Koets post this on one of the other boards. This guy Ron Toney is amazing! I have heard he can do miracles with severe silk problems but these pics on his website have to be seen to be believed. Next time I have a silk rug challenge I'm going to ship it to Ron for his magic touch!

Just click here to see what I'm talking about!

In case you don't know who Ron is, then here is his bio:

Ron Toney is one of the industry's leading Cleaners with a track record spanning three decades. Ron understands natural fibers from all perspectives. He is widely recognized for his accomplishments in restoration and cleaning as a IICRC Certified Master Cleaner and Restorer. He teaches the Oriental Rug Cleaning Specialist School for cleaners
from all over the world. But most of all Ron loves to satisfy his client's needs in textile cleaning and restoration. Give Ron a call or e-mail Ron@carpetschool.com, he would be happy to help you.

Stephen, I dont do upholstery repairs.  Nor carpet repairs if I can help it because my knees are shot.  With refference the silk rugs I clean and restore to the standard of the pictures shown on the other gentlemans web site.

It's not a miracle as silk has a bad rap and actually isnt that difficult to work on.  Having said that the pictures do tell a very good story.  There are quite a few companies in the U.K. that also do this type of work as there are back in Southern California where I still have an interest in a rug cleaning company.

When rugs bleed because of fugitive dyes.  The nature that the dye is fugitive sometimes you can just make it bleed again and in the liquid state just remove the now mobile dye.

Had they been purged when the textile had been cleaned then of course there wouldnt have been a problem in the first place.

Flooded and then dried rugs are a different story but in most cases they will still restore.  As long as the silk hasnt been damaged and only bleed on then again restoration is still an option.

Best, Dave.
