pricing commercial

hi, i was wondering if anyone could gide me on what i should be charging for commercial work? For domestic i charge 26p sq foot. Do you add more for chewing gum or if the carpets are very soiled? Cheers.

For me each job is priced accordingly so prefer to survey, If it involves gum removal i charge extra, as it not only requires additional cleaning solutions but can be hard, time consuming work. The same can be said for heavy soiling, as commercial work can differ so much having a set price for me isnt practical so avoid giving over the phone prices, but if i had no choice maybe 20% less than what you would charge for domestic work providing you are talking about large areas.

Paul Chambers lost a job because another cleaning company charged about 9p a square foot and were prepared to travel 100 miles.

I lost one because another company charged 8p a foot.

My price was only 15p

Probably confused you.

To be honest I was told while on an ashbys course that if you want bulk commercial work you need to charge about 10p  a square foot to get it. I dont think I miss understood.

Others will disagre.

Hi Guys

This commercial pricing is in my opinion OUTRAGEOUS!

9p and 10p a sq ft! they might as well be wearing a black eye mask!

I know it all comes down to budget but I have never put in a price that low and have got the jobs priced for.

I also know that we have to be competitive but how low do they expect us to go?

Big areas, light soiling, no furniture, no prevac and using bonnett system may still prove profitable at 10p sq ft but not what I'm into.

Try pricing it at your hourly rate instead of sq ft.  

Not all commercial are price shoppers either.

blime me 9p! :o I think pricing by the hour could be a good possabilty. Havn't got any commercial jobs yet but just wanted to be prepared for when they hopefully start rolling in.

Hi guys, I'm in the middle of a large commercial carpet clean; am doing about 2 to 2 and a half hours several evenings during the week between 5 and 7.30 pm plus a few hours at weekends. (It's a very flexible arrangement.)

I'm charging £1.20 per square metre (approx 11 pence per square foot) and am making a fortune.

The system I use means that I have minimal set up/break down time and can leave the gear on site.

When I consider how many hours I'm putting into it (a few left to go) and the final charge I must be on between £70 to £80 per hour.

Before anyone suggests I'm doing an inferior job for my measly 11 pence psf I'm actually achieving excellent results and furthermore have received many positive comments and several requests for domestic work.

Oh and this isn't a maintenance clean.

Inferior clean would I never, are you and Paul going to carpex?

Getting back to prices it all depends on who I’m dealing with, bank charges, staff required etc could be up-to £5.20sqm and they pay it; it may take 6mouths to pay me still in profit.

Hi Len, next time we stop over in your neck of the woods I promise to buy you a breakfast; will that be the bacon and egg or sausage and egg McMuffin?

We have a trip down to Woking soon, is that too far away from you? Will be in about 3 weeks time.

Our client has more than doubled in size with just over 100 sites now. We are quoting to do all of their locations once they can give me a few more details. There are approx half of the sites in the London/Home Counties area so we may become regular visitors. :)

Will probably go TM if we get them all.

Re Carpex; I can't really see us getting over there. If it was closer to home then maybe, but a trip that far without getting paid for it, combined with current workload makes it difficult to justify. (This will be 4th consecutive weekend working.)

Going back to commercial pricing; when given an office block's gross square meter/feet figure around 10% can be deducted as toilets/kitchens so therefore hard floor, plus I estimate that another 15% can be lost through cabinets/desking/inaccesible areas etc and therefore the total area is reduced by around a quarter.

Commercial and domestic are two different markets, I have never wanted to do domestic but may do these that come about through commercial work if I think they are worthwhile.

Could not agree more, but I believe in this case I was referring too, it was a pilot national deep clean and I only tag on due to this forum in to networking, if it was MFI would I say not a lot of carpets more like hard floor, will give a clue locals appear to be not that good. :o

Sorry guys, MFI nothing to do with me. :-\

The locals had the work, took the p*ss and subsequently lost it to me. I'll go anywhere if the money is right.

FTR it was about our 12th clean although 3 of the team were newbies.
