What wouldn't you wfp?
« on: July 04, 2007, 08:37:33 pm »
I've got some more horrible flakey oxidised wooden framed windows to wrestle with tomorrow. Would you do them or give them a miss? Why dosen't the rain make them spot? Are there any jobs that can't be done wfp?

Some windows just don`t come good with the pole,i`ve given some 3 cleans upwards and they still don`t come good.If you go in with the H&S angle the odd run and mark will be overlooked, but on bad frames and flaky paint if you go in saying they`ll come up perfect madam you`ll make yourself look a fool.Stick with the PVC windows, some still oxodize but not to the extreme i find of the painted type windows,99% of the PVC windows i do with the pole come up spotless but i would say that percentage is no where near with the older type wooden windows.

Reading your question again about the rain not making them spot i would say that when using the pole your agravating the paint and putty and squirting water into cracks and holes, the rain in general wont leave that many spots,i took a reading yesterday of the rain water out of my waterbut and it was 010ppm some people clean windows with water at that reading.

.........so if I leave the frames well alone would this solve any problems? In the past I have scrubbed others untill the water turned to milk then did the glass again (and again).

Got just a couple like this. Do everything possible to make the water reach about half inch below the top of the frame. Customer will have to accept this.
we have a village with circ 1700, 1800 origional leaded glass. With the best will in the world there is no way you can use wfp on these. Yes we ladder these on the basis of RA and Method statements.

leave all frame well alone, angle your brush a bit more downwards than normal to prevent water going above the top beading, clean only the underside of the top beading with the TOPS of the bristles NOT the tips (moving from left to right to give it a bit of a scrub). clean window gently, then when done push brush up to top left corner of glass, gently allowing the tops of the bristles to touch the top beading & move slowley across to the right to rinse.

Pencil jets & a rectangular brush are best for this method.
