advice from what ive learned
« on: July 04, 2007, 07:22:09 am »
right well, ive been doing wfp for a year now and i love it!! best thing ive done but ive spent soooooo much money

if i could go back and start again i would do this, and this should help you new starters

get a RO and DI unit, less than £200 (with a TDS meter to test your water)
water butt at home to collect the water £20 odd
get some 25 litre barrels, how ever you may want to carry, can get them for a £1 round here. lets say £10
get a backpack and a pole, i paid £300 for mine with a 18ft pole

in my opionion THAT is all you need, i have spent soooo much money on all sorts, looking at about £5k now  ::) when i couldve spent around £500 and run it out of my car! of course i wanted to look more professional with the van but i did it the oher way round i spent the money now im working it off, my advice is to get these bits, run it outta ya car, you could carry around 150 litres in a car i reakon, which is ample with the backpack...then if it works out for you...go spending then  ;)

all you have to do is get pure water up to a window...dont complicate things  ;)

After using my car for a couple of years the best thing i did was buy a van, if you can afford to run one its the best option so in my opinion you have done the right thing, it also gives you a more professional image and if its sign written you can pick up plenty of extra jobs too!!

Yeah i agree it can be a bit daunting at the start, the best thing to do is buy what you can afford, i built my reach/wash over a six month period buying bits and pieces as i could afford them, i now have a spot on set up that was worth waiting for, regards to vans etc when you start there is no rush to get one once your buisness picks up then branch out!!

LWC - Do you wear your backpack while poling, or move it around on a trolley?

Just curious - I'd like one but fear it will be too heavy for me with a dodgy back.

Thanks

Mike

i always wear my backpack yes, and i hardly notice it, i was worried about the weight. most guys do just carry it though or trolley

but i like it on my back. it easy, i had a mega bad back months ago from lifting the trolley in and out of the van and the barrels, its doesnt hurt like that

you just hav to lift it properly, and its well padded

Bang on!

A £500 system will wash a window just as good as a £5000 setup!

If I could start again I would use a small 250L tank instead of the 650L one I recently bought! >:( This is because I backpack everything now. It saves loads of water and is so much quicker.

I agree with matt from lwc.
