This should be an interesting thread for us Newbies.

I've been up and running now three weeks and have 16  new customers from approx 1k leaflets.

Going for quality not quantity. Plus some upvc and gutter cleans. Started to worry this week has nothing new in from last weeks efforts, but sure it will come.

Just has a foot note people could also reveal what methods they used to generate their business.

It's so long ago I really can't remember.  However, right at the start I had picked up one customer that generated an average of about £400 a month (not window cleaning) which I lost after about six months.  It got me through that first difficult bit though.  I stopped door knocking after about a year though I was only door knocking a couple of evenings after a while.  I suppose it took about two years to have what I regarded as a full workload.  I could have got there much more quickly but my outgoings were very low in those days so I just worked according to my needs.  It seems funny now that I was delighted at turning over about £250 - £300 a week (this was in the early 90s).
I think I had nearly 400 customers at one point - mostly under priced and I struggled to keep up with it.
I have about 210 now.  They are better priced (except for a few).  I earn more from the 210 than I did from the 400 and I get a lot more time off.  There's a lot to be said for pricing properly from the start.

Doorknocking, no leaflets and I got 150 by three months. Now pop a few business cards here and there and have my van signwritten and seem to have levelled out at around 170 since Feb. Had a few one offs (gutter cleans and conservatories) but need more work as I intend to go full time within the next month. Today for instance I earnt £4!!! but quoted a couple of new ones. I have thought of advertising in the local paper or even trying estate agents. This time of year window cleaners seem to be everywhere so competition is hotting up.

In my first year of window cleaning with wfp, starting from scratch as I had never done window cleaning before, I turned over £30,000. I did this mostly by letters and phone calls.

I reckon that is a great achievement.  I turned over about £10,000 myself (91/92) but about a quarter of that would have been from driving work rather than window cleaning.  I thgought I did prtetty well just achieving what I did so I say to you well done.

Hi started just under 3 years ago.
Worked part time until my round was big enough to leave.
Now well over 800 clients and not happy at that.
Domestic work is 6 weekly though as I believe thats about the right time for them to get dirty and saves on the clients pocket so they can afford the prices.
Never lost one when trad but lost quite a few since gone wfp.
Training employees to clean properly is proving troublesome.
