Bank Of Scotland - Rip Off
« on: May 19, 2007, 05:37:00 pm »
Hi Guys,

If you bank with the Bank Of Scotland you will notice that they are now charging all businesses £15.00 per calendar month, this is shown as a maintenance charge for having the account.
Prior to this they used to charge for every cheque they administer and pay into your account. This amounted to about a couple of pound a month which I was unhappy about but paid. But now there taking £15.00 per month every month!!! :o

Who do you guys bank with and what are the charges, please could you advise a good one?

Regards
Peter :)

www.abbey.co.uk/business

It's completely free and you also get a little intrest. You can only pay in and draw from their cash machine though, but you don't have to pay in during business hours.

I used to pay approx £35 per month to the Nat West  :o

Hi Guys

I switched to Abbey about 4 years ago after becoming thoroughly fed up with Nat West who I had to take to the Banking Ombudsman to get them off my back.

I pay no charges and do not waste a load of time waiting to pay in.

Cheers

I was looking at Alliance and Leicester as you can use any Post Office (while there are some left) to pay in.

I've got a LLoyds TSB account which charges £3 per month maintenance fee + charges for cheques, cash, direct debits etc. On the plus side my personal account is with tem and they have a business savings accounts so moving money around online is easy.

Guys

its abbey for me as well, saving hundreds each year from Barclay's, only one problem with paying my staff on a bank holiday week as its five days to clear, but its still worth it and my staff understand

Abbey for me too, no charges, easy paying in at the machine + interest.

I can't believe people use the big banks for business, they charge you the earth for everything, I have not paid a bank charge in 5 years. :D

Yes Karl, you can also manage your account online with the Abbey.
If transfering money into a different personal bank it takes about 5 working days.

If you have a personal account with the Abbey, money transfer is the same day.

the only problem with ABBEY is that you cant tranfere money from your business account into your personal account because the sort codes are different

I should imagine this will become a common practie with most banks, now they are being penalised for bank charges they have to find another way to sting you for cash.  Will have a look at abbey though as most seem to use them.
