Connection help needed
« on: April 02, 2007, 03:22:49 pm »
Hi guys,

I am in need of some advice as to what connections I need to connect together the following please:

I have a Shurflo pump that at the minute has a screw in green push fit connector each side which takes the braided clear hose that came with my system (from Aquatec - Peter Fogwill).

I just bought a Shurflo filter and need a fitting for each side of this that will take the above mentioned clear braided hose - any ideas?

Also - I am putting together my own downstairs pole & brush and wanted to know what people use to hold the spray jet's into the brush with. I have 2 spray jets from Cleantech (5mm I believe) and if I drill a hole in the brush for each they will just drop out won't they? I wanted to try and keep my brush as light as possible - any suggestions or ideas from what you guys have done previously?

Thanks for your help on the above 2 things :-)

Steve

Can't follow the 1st part, can you put a pic up?

The jets you just drill a slightly smaller hole so it grips the jet/hose when its pushed in. It doesn't have to be rock solid, just firm enough to stop it moving.

HI Shaun,

Sounds like you need 2x 3/8" male screw thread to 1/2" barb fittings. Then you can push the 1/2" hose over the barbs and tighten with a jubilee clip.

Hi, here's some pictures to make it (hopefully!) clearer -

This is the filter I have:

...and these are the 2 ends of it, so you can see what connections I need:

(this second one has a screw thread as you can see in the picture below this one)

...and this is the pipe I am trying to connect. (I have this pipe coming out of my pump via green push fit connectors).

If anyone can tell me what connectors I need to go on each end of my filter as shown above so I can attach this pipe I would be grateful.

If any supplier read this and can PM with a price inc postage I will order them ASAP as I need them for the weekend if possible :-)

Having recently noticed all the stuff floating around in my 25L containers (even thought my water still shows as between 3-5 TDS) I really need to get this sorted asap!

Thanks for the help guys
Steve

Steve,

Try a tap connector which should screw on, then all you need to do is push on a normal hose and tighten it with a jubilee clip.

thanks Doung but that doesn't really help me as I am trying to find connections for the hose I use above - but thanks for the tip anyway.

Cheers

The pipe you are using looks like 1/4 inch id hose (which I must say is very small to have feeding a pump).  You need a hose barb adapter to screw thread.  You need a 1/4 inch barb to 1/2 inch male screw thread and then a 1/2 inch screw thread female to female coupling.  This will allow you to connect the size hose you have to the male screw thread end which is the inlet on your strainer.  If you want to connect to the same size hose on the other side of your strainer, you will just need a 1/4 inch barb to 1/2 inch male screw thread (as above).

We can source these for you (we don't keep these in stock) but unfortunately not over a bank holiday weekend.  The cost will be about £4.50 for all three fittings +vat +postage or take the above information (or the pump/hose/strainer) into a plumbers merchants or boat chandlers and they will be able to source something that will do the job.

thanks Alex, may be in touch. I've been told by Peter Fogwell that this filter will screw straight into the side of my pump and then I can use the adapter I already have in my pump to put into the other side of the filter. Will try later and see how it goes.

Why would you say this is too small a pipe to feeb my pump (its a 60psi)?

...right - they don't screw in - doh!

I have 2 connectors that are described as "Shureflow elbow connectors (straight connector to 1/2")", one of these will screw in the male end of the filter but I need the opposite to go onto the female end - any ideas?

From what I can gather Alex you have what I need, if so I will order these from you - can you let me know that what you mentioned is right.

Thanks for your help
Steve
