For those of us using ladders, a helphul tip.

After having a couple of ladder slips when they were leant on PVC guttering and not being on them, one was costly the other just annoying, I decided to glue some old blades onto the underside of the ladder at the top so that when they are leant against guttering etc it gives a bit of resistance and may prevent them slipping, thus avoiding any further accidents.
I'm sure I've read this tip on here before but thought it worth repeating, as my costly accident was £250 damage to a car.

Buy a set of ladder mitts, they do that same job but much better grip and look good to the customers.

Dick, I have always carried string in my pocket and tie ladder to gutter clips. It only takes a few moments, but gives reassurance that ladder will not move. In most cases it is possible to do. It stops ladder from going sideways when getting on / off and prevents wind from taking ladder sideways too.

The reason for glueing old blades is to prevent slipping when resting the ladder against guttering if the top of the ladder is above the guttering, not necessarily when actually using it, but it does prevent movement when getting on/off. It also prevents marking gutters.
Ladder mits are only useful at the top of the ladder when resting against a wall etc.

I use an old bicycle tyre that I cut up, and tied it to the ladder with cable ties. It's white, so it doesn't mark upvc.
