« on: August 16, 2004, 02:01:37 pm »
Is it true that an old stain left by cat sick is acidic and will have permanently damaged the carpet. The carpet is 80-20 wool mix. Owner has removed a lot of the stain with vanish and product called power carpet she also put white vinigar on it and rubbed with left over carpet. There is still a patchy pale brown mark slightly darker than carpet. It is in a doorway and is prominent and needs cleaning off if possible. Does anyone know if solutions uk micro spitting stain remover for wool carpet is good for pet mess. There is no odour. Thanks Any ideas appreciated. Does anyone know prices for carpet solution stuff no price list on web site. Can you buy small quanities

The stain probably is acidic, if your unsure test with ph papers. Cat sick has so many nasties- stomach acid food colourings ets. What has probably damaged the carpet is the solutions she has allready put on it, vanish and similar products contain bleaches which can affect the colour of the carpet and help to lock the stain in.

If you still want to have a go, try rinsing with plain hot water then use a neutral spotter. You might want to add some de-foam to the tank,  you will spend 15 mins just getting the vanish out.

I would leave it at that. You could try an emzyme digester followed by ammonia then acid rince, but this could make the stain worse thus becoming your problem.

Mark.

If the problem of cat sick occurs again or any other pet mess What should people be advised to do with the mess. A carpet cleaning company is not always available as cats always choose the wrong time such as late at night weekends. If people go around using vanish and other simailar products making the mess worse then it makes it difficult to explain. What could they put on the mess after scaping the worst off to prevent premanent staining or until they call the professionals in.
