Investing into WFP
« on: March 07, 2007, 11:43:29 pm »
Hi lads,

Over the next 3months or so i am going to be investing into WFP system proberly a DIY system from freedom wfp or somewere like that.

I was thinking of setting my ro up in my back garden to make the water and store it into water butts then transfer into my van for the day in the morning or when ever etc.. those people who have the water outside in butts how does thins cope in the winter with freezing?? as i have heard people but little heaters in there van over night to keep the temp over 0 to stop the freezing?.

Also is it worth getting or i even might need one am not to clued up on it all yet but do i need a Varistream in my van?? and if so is it hard to wire it up?.

IF any one could help that would be great thanks :D

I have an 1000litre IBC Tank which is stored outside.
You can get these fairly cheap if they are used ones.
Make sure they have not had strong chemicals in them.
Mine just needed a good rinse out and it was fine.
Think I paid around £40-£50 delivered.
Even though I have had a few problems with pipes freezing in the van
the IBC did not freeze at all (even at -6)
Just make sure you lag the pipes and the RO.
I would also recommend a varistream although I started without one.
Had a few problems to start but would not be without it now.
They are absolutely simple to wire in and come with full instructions and even clips.etc to fit.
Hope that helps

We have a 1000 lt in the shed filled by a 300gpd RO.

We have run a normal hose pipe 2/3rds of the way around the outside of the house from the mains tap to the unit for 5 winters and never had a problem.

I keep meaning to get the shed lagged but never got around to it but we have been lucky, despite a few really cold spells.

My own IBC tank is outside, and after 3 winters I've not had a problem, though one time last winter, the water in my transfer hose froze solid :'(
Tosh was over at the time, so we cailed up the transfer hose (all 35 metres of it >:() and stuffed it as best we could inside an old water butt I was using prior to the IBC, then I got a fan heater out of the house, plugged it in and pointed it into the butt :o

Somewhat Heath-Robinson, but it did the trick ;)

If you go for 100m of microbore (Gardiners) and a 100 psi pump + 2mm needle jets in your brush, yo uwill not need a varistream, and with an inline valve on your pole hose yo uwill also be able to regulate the flowrate without affecting the running of the pump.
Or at least that is the case with the Flojet pump, I don't know if the Shurflo version of the 100 psi pump is as robust as the Flojet though.

In the depths of winter, if you have a van, then some form of heater in the back is a good idea, I'm lucky in that I can have an extension cable out to the van 24/7, so I just pop in a cheap fan heater with a frosty stat setting on cold nights.

Dave...give me a call as I have a Ford Escort 55 diesel van with 77K mileage with an installed Brodex 250 litre DI system with commercial roof rack and roof fitted Brodex pole holder.
The pump has been fitted with a heavy duty, deep cycle leisure battery wired to the van battery with a split relay so the pump battery is continuously charging.
The water passes through a DI vessel with new resin bringing your RO water down to 000TDS.
The van is MOT till November and taxed till June.
The van has window cleaning and customer benefits sign writing to which you would only need to add your contact details.
All you would need is a hose reel and pole. I can advise you on what and where to purchase these items.
If you are interested in further details, call me on: 0789 1502 961 and you can can come and have a look.
I am in Garston, Liverpool.
