does something have value if its free?
« on: March 05, 2007, 02:26:59 pm »
guys

do you put a value on something if its free?

For example. do you value AdWords more than working on getting top listing with Google?

or

free advise or paid ?

or

free trail or buy it and then see if you like it?

I think when stuff is given away for free it can sometimes backfire when people sense a hidden agenda, or is that just the uneasiness of reciprocity?

Had a women today who when presented with a 'free' spotter she gave me a sideways glance and started quizzing me as if I was up to no good. When I explained actually she was doing me a favour and explained the marketing value, she said Oh that's ok then.  ::)

Hi Mike

be true full, tell her that you want her to know how to put her hands on your phone number when she has a spillage. say just call me and I'll tell you what to do when you have one and if it a bad spillage then i come and clean it free of charge for you.

I offer all my client free spillage service. it the old trick of making them fell a member of a club and not a one off customer.

My reason for asking this question is first that many pay big money for marketing information and if i am giving ideas away for free i might upset them. and i don't want to do that. plus i don't want to take any value away from that material.

Its ideas that comes from knowledge that has been around for years after all. I have spent thousands on information its a industry in its self. the people that need it the most cant afford it at the start of there businesses. is it this that gives it its value?

do we really value something when its free or does it mean more when we pay for it.?

how many times have you bought something without a trial and been disappointed? computer software is a good example of this. its just a box with a sales message on the outside, but will it do what you want easily?

why when something is free do we think there is a hidden agenda? are we so messes up that kindness and a sense of community has no place?

what i try and do with my clients is try and give this sense off community. and i feel that here as well i look as you all as friends and not people that i can take from.
