Green means healthier !
« on: March 02, 2007, 10:57:37 am »
No doubt environmentally friendly cleaning means its healthier to work today than 15 yrs ago when I started out surely thats a benefit to all of us.

Whether your a believer or a non-believer  ( I have my doubts over many of the issues raised)   the affects from the debate will and do affect all of us and the way we work, legislation will see to that, better to be prepared IMO.

The knock on effect is that is that it's way healthier to be a CC today than it was even 3 years ago let alone 15 yrs the benefits for us and our  clients health in terms of the products we use to clean with are there for all to see. The 'green' issue forced manufacturers to look at alternatives when producing cleaning solutions, I don't want to go back to the days of super strong solvents where PPE was a must on practically every job ,do you?

I feel much happier leaving a clients home knowing that every product and system I have used is 100% safe for them and me not only during but after the clean.

Simply to ignore it and say its a load of b*ll*c*s is living in a fools paradise even if some of you don't admit it on here you are using greener products NOW!

Aren;t you?  ::)

I understand what it is you are saying but also, you are having a laugh.  There are chemicals being used because they are allowed to be used in this country that have long been banned elsewhere around the world.  Perc can still be purchased over the counter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Not only that but you can still buy a dry solvent machine for the use of dry solvent cleaning.  These machines because of their use have also been banned elsewhere around the world.  Correction, I am sure you can still get them you just cant get the chemicals to go with them.  Yes on the whole we are better than we were 15 years ago, just here in the UK we are still so far behind the rest of the modern world when it comes to more enviromentally better chemicals.  Best, Dave.

On site they either use hwe or a solvent that would be applied by hand so to speak and not a machine.  The solvent though is usually o. m. s. so nothing like what is used over here.  Doug I am sure would know the technicalities but needless to say in the states especially in California where I have my business its hard enough to be able to just use detergents, let alone all the nonsense that can be used over here.  I know its not the same over here, although I understand its getting close, but in the states everyone's middle name is sue.  Just about if you could pronounce perc in its complete name you could be sued.  Ok not really but lawyers dont need an excuse to sue you for something.  Let alone if you give them a reason..... best, Dave.

So what about solvent spotters like eco spotter etc surely they arent totally enviro friendly but we need them for ink removal etc.  Also what about coffee stains etc do you not use bleaches?

Im all for greener cleaning but Im also not convinced products such as prspray gold or liquid woolsafe or spitfire etc are a danger to use unless you drink them of course.

Of course sometimes we have to use stronger solutions, but the point is, in the main all the products I use are safer to use than a few years ago and this is because of the green issues.

eco-spotter is not a solvent spotter in the sense that you mean and is completely safe to use.

Liahona, we also can use OMS over here, the US does not have a monopoly on safe products but the point is the same, because of the green debate and yes because of fear of litigation cleaning today is much much safer,so I don't see where we differ on this.

I clean curtains with MS and steam no solvents.
