wfp - leaving windows wet
« on: February 17, 2007, 07:20:58 pm »
After spending the day setting up my WFP I cleaned my own windows just before dark.

Well the windows are still wet now and the missus aint impressed with that.

I realised they wouldnt dry straight away at this time of year, but are they going to stay wet until morning? What do customers think about that?

So whats the problem with them being wet? Its a cold feb night and the water isnt going to evaporate until the sun gets at it. Its exactly if it rained at 5pm, the windows wouldnt be dry either.
When they do dry and as long as they have been cleaned and rinsed properly they will dry smear and spot free

Its the air Temperature  that dries windows not day light or the sun, if the Temperature  is low it takes longer to dry if the Temperature  is high they dry quicker, as they tend to in windy weather.

When they are dry ask your wife what she thinks of them then, I bet she'll change her mind.

The trouble with wet windows is that attracts dust and dirt blown by the wind. This ends up in spotting, I use wfp but only on high and awkward windows the rest are cleaned trad, that way you see the finished product.
This is an informative post, not having a go at wfp as I use it myself.

It is a very valid issue, the water from a wfp system is only pure and spot free for as long as it is not contaminated by particulates carried in the air.

Normally the spots will dry long before this happens, however if you are working in cold or windy conditions, or in an area where there is a lot of dust being blown around then it will stick to the water on the windows and leave a residue when it dries.

We sometimes have this problem when we are working alongside the beach on a windy day.

Not a massive problem, but you will always get someone complaining about it.

As the last post says, we use WFP as a tool, not as a replacement to traditional methods, they should both do a good job in their own environment and if done correctly.

Have a look at your windows in the morning, if they are spotted and your wife is not happy with the finish, then it is likely that your customers won't be either.

The water is deionised and less prone to attraction. The surface tension (the water is in beads on the window) is strong enough if you remember your old science lessons to rest a pin on without it getting wet. Us WFPolers are a tetchy lot!
Tomorrow don't panic if the results are pants and the wife hits the roof. You wasted all that money you gormless idiot etc. That's why you did your own first.Best thing is if you lower her expectations and say that the guys on the forum say you need to experiment to get it right.

Even better get up at first light before she doe, and get out there! ;D

When I started wfp 2 years ago I tried it on me ol' Mum's windows and she said that she didn't like the windows being left wet and that customers wouldn't like it. But she was 80 at the time!

She doesn't bat an eyelid now when I do them.

Last night I got a new pole and brush and changed the connections after dark when I got home so tried it out on my windows by streetlight. They came up good - but not as good as when I do them in the daylight.  ;D

Wall-O! How are you my old fruit?

Mum's ok - a bit confused at times but she's 83 now - everyone else ok. And your lot?

I was only cleaning at night because it got dark by the time I put on the new connections. What w/c are you up to now? Trad. or Wfp?

pretty good, every window wasnt perfect, just the odd spotting here and there.

On my new RO system the tds is coming out at 002. Can I clean with this??
I have a 300GPD RO from pruefreedom at grimsby, some of the membranes have a slight leak, hardly enough to drip. I also use a booster pump as my mains is real low pressure.

More or less the same as you 300gpd booster 1 tds. The tds was a lot higher on low mains and also when I first start up. I tried to get away without going through the di, but I had to start using it. Don't know why.
