Ladder feet
« on: February 15, 2007, 12:30:01 pm »
I read on here a day or two ago about the colour of feet on ladders (the rubber part that sits on the ground)

I cant find that link again, despite using the search function.

So, can anyone help me, I'll be buying a new ladder shortly and was wondering what difference the colour means with regards the feet, its a health and safety issue I guess, but, what difference is there?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

I think it's a size thing.

I've always used what Ian Giles called the "yellow ladder", but he had a massive 14 or 15 rung old thing that was the "red ladder".

Whenever I see anything other than yellow feet it's usually a beast.

Hi matty, ladders with yellow feet are trade ladders, i`m having a set of new ones delivered tomorrow.
I was using b&q domestic ladders, when i looked down last week the ladders were bending,so i thought it was about time to change to safer trade ladders before i have an accident ;D

Trade ladders are very much better than the B & Q diy ones well basicly any diy ones you feel safer as well.

Also matty get some articulated feet fitted on the bottom! much much more grip than standard ladder feet. i wont use any ladders without these fitted now there around £30.00

Thanks guys.

Yes, well, Ive had a set of B+Q's for about 6 years now. 3.4m and I usually have to go up 11 rungs to a first floor window (I must have OCD I count every bloody time I come down the d**n thing  :-\  :-\) it has blue feet, whatever that means, domestic-lightweight-trash-ladder probably  ;D

The feet wear, no doubt that happens with any ladder, but I have to say, although Im only a sprightly 11 stone I'm beginning to think I need a better quality ladder, the one I have at the mo I can keep in the back garden for home DIY etc, though Ive never noticed it bending at all.

Im thinking of a trade ladder, something strudier undoubtedly. I hired a far longer ladder a while ago for a high job I had lined up, a good number of gutter and barge-board cleans I picked up in a road, and felt really safe on that even at height as it was that much stronger and just seemed so much more stable.

Thanks for the tips guys

Dave, regarding articulated feet, are they that much better? It seems odd to have something that can move at the bottom of a ladder, maybe Ive got it wrong, but it seems to go against the grain so far as ladder work is concerned???
