« on: February 06, 2007, 09:07:16 pm »
ive been asked to clean a hotel not very big but big enough at the moment im still trad hoping to make the change as soon as i can.
my question is there is a platform all round the way around the hotel, it must be at leat 12 ft wide, am i legally allowed to do clean these top two floors with ladders? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

sorry not a platform that sounds bad, the ground floor is larger than the two floors in the middle so it has a flat roof all the way round if that makes more sence

Your question should be, is there alternative method available of cleaning these windows or can they ONLY be cleaned by ladder access as a last resort. If there is then you should not use ladders. Alternative methods mean those availble on the market to you and NOT what you personally have available. Would suggest you get the details of the hotels own H & S as you will have to abide by their set down rulings and your own industries.  The hotels H &S may just have the answer for you. You need to make available a hard copy method statement and risk assessment, which should be readily on offer to the customer, should they require it.

I'd do it.

If I was unsure how strong the roof was, remember, all your weight and the weight of the ladders will be placed just on the feet of your ladders creating a 'drawing pin effect'; I'd use a Rojak to spread the weight out (and to prevent you slipping).

I've done jobs like this, prior to getting a WFP.
