Commercial/Nursery pricing?
« on: January 22, 2007, 11:45:08 am »
Been asked to price up a children day nursery tomorrow but up until now (approx. 8 mths) I have only done residential with satisfying results and of course priced accordingly.
But from what I have read on here you have to price commerical work differently, i.e. cheaper, is that the case?
I currently charge by the square foot but need to charge by the square metre for commercial I gather.
As for prices, previous posts seem to suggest anything from £1.50 - £3.50 PSM, so I'm thinking somewhere in the middle. Is this fair?
Also would it be a good idea being a nursery to offer an allergen spray at half price to try and sucure the work?
Any help would be appreciated as would any further tips on how to approach it.
Thanks
Paul

They'll be looking for a price towards the lower end of the spectrum. On the plus side there won't be too much awkward furniture to work around.

It's worth doing a deal with them. You do a job at a low price and they do some advertising on your behalf. Perhaps they could mention you in their next newsletter or perhaps give out some of your leaflets, or display a poster.

Most of the kiddiewinks will be dropped off and collected by mothers and childminders. Exactly the sort of people who will be interested in your services. They are also the sort of people who will talk to neighbours and other mothers.

Word of mouth is the best form of advertising! Use it as an opportunity to show what you can do.

Priced up today and just wanted to get some feedback on what some of you thought.

Total 77.32 sqm over 4 rooms and a landing plus stairs x 17
Quoted £190.

She came across really abrupt, just as she was when she phoned telling me my number was wrong in my advert and she got through to some old women 3 times, but when I pointed out she had neglected to put in the area code she soon shut up so I'm not holding my breath on this one.

We clean quite a few nurserys/creches/play groups in the area and find it is a very good way of getting new work with young families.

I would have priced similar to yourself, maybe £150 - £170 depending on inspection.  If you get the job leave them a couple of bottles of spotter as a goodwill, plus a pile of your cards.

If you have done a good job the work should start coming in.
