Hi Karl,
I'm a member of Check-a-Trade, joined in July this year.
I joined at level one, it has not brought anymore work my way, when you get clients to fill in the card after each job, I explain to them what check-a-trade is about and only one so far had even heard of them. Do I think it's worth the money to be with them, jury is still out on that i'm affraid. Yes it says you have been vetted, checked etc, but if people don't even know that they exsist, then how is it doing me any good. I do have to admit check-a-trade did not try the hard sell on me etc, it was my choice to contact them and join, but not sure it is worth it to be honest.

i know people who foolishly paid money to this company who said they will stop rogue traders by , getting people to join accredited schemes for so called top workmen,   codswallop.

he has not heard from them since he paid £100 odd quid.

never mind about rogue trades men, what about these rogue trade assocation schemes, which give you a sticker for your van and not much else, like ,who vets the vetters?

i joined 118 trades.com   which also runs the verification association (gives you a card and a sticker)

I haven`t had anything from it, and seen a couple of bad posts on here since joining.

i`m not holding my breath but i`ll let you know on here if i get anything from it.

I was so warned against joining 118trades.com was told that "the guy who runs the verification association was arrested which was reported on watchdog, it's all a big scam" I can't back this claim up, but have had endless calls from them re-joining, and it is expensive and real hard sell. Not for me.

yer thats the general feeling i`m getting, thay wanted £300 to join I knocked them down to £150 so if i don`t get anything of it, then it`s not a great loss.

unfortunatly i didn`t read the comments on here about them untill after i parted with my cash, we all learn :-\

ANY LOSS IS A GREAT LOSS!

Can I have a chat with you as you have made me think of setting up some kind of regulatory body myself!

It would be handy is you could spare another £150 or-so to help me get started!

Can't guarantee anything of course - but that shouldn't be a problem...

IT'S NO GREAT LOSS!

PHEW! :P
