Water softening in a porty
« on: December 07, 2006, 07:53:01 pm »
I,ve gone for several months using tap hot water running my ninja from the van as the internal steam mate and tank heater stopped working. Finally got round to getting the new wiring upgrade to get them working again when the pump head and motor finally gave up the ghost last week £750 later!!! :'(
Anyway, DAYM... I missed the steam mates heat! Even with microsplitting/ HOST agitation there was a noticeable difference in cleaning performance using a plain water rinse.

Problem. The whole system clogged up half way through a £500+ domestic job and I had to return the following morning. >: (A couple of spanners revealed that the internal pipework was loaded with accumulated scale. I flushed 1/10 pH1/ water through the bleed hose for ten minutes and then thoroughly rinsed with plain water and I think I've removed it all...Now it seems to heat up within a couple of minutes! :o

And now to the point of my post. Pumptech do an inline water softener, trouble is it would have to be plumbed in prior to the steam mate and I don't think there's enough room...If I dumped the salt in the solution tank instead will it run out quicker, bearing in mind the the 400psi ninja is a recirculating system?

Hi Alan
I think you gonna have to upgrade that van of yours if you put anything more into it
You must be on the weight limit by now

Hello pete, What does it have a pump in it. Hold on you're running a truckmount aren't you? The thing I'm on about is about the size of a shureflo pump.
Can anyone answer my question about chucking a pile of salt in the solution tank. Or Resin??

Alan

I may be mistaken but I believe both Alltec and Chemspec do rinse agents with softeners or de-scalers as part of the mix.

Thanks but I try not to use chemicals, hence the plain water rinse. Anyway salt's got to be a lot cheaper than lining Robert Saunders pockets ;)

hi alan i descale my ni nja once every 4 weeks with household descaler tablets from tescos and they work a treat i also put washing machine softner tablets in my 400ltr fresh water tank however i could if i coud be botherd plumb a water softner inbetween my tank and 12volt pump before it even gets to my machine tank , when using the v2 heaters its a must to descale every 4 weeks as the high heat scales them very fast and to much presure in them will blow the pipes on the v2 , i think the tesco ones are called rockkill or something likethat  ,  when u use them just put enough water in u tank for the heater to come on  then let it heat up to temp  turn the pump on then the v2 on run the water throw till it comes out hot at u wand  then let it rest for half hour  then empty u tank with wand and run tank of frsh water in machine   its best to do this with the jets off u wand u be amazed mount of crap comes out and increased pressure u get and the heaters work better
gary
p.s alan who sells the pumptec softner ? and how much?

Gary, thanks for the info. Woodbridge do the inline water softener by Pumptec. I think it's about £60 for the unit plus the salt.

Pete, Email me your no. again and I'll catch up soon.
Thanks
Alan
