When do you start wishing a merry Christmas?
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:13:49 pm »
Well most of us domestic guys are now doing work for the last time before Christmas. When do you start wishing them all the best?
I feel embarrased doing it so early in case they think I'm after a tip, but I won't see them again untill next year.
Have any of you guys started wishing seasonal greetings yet? Dai.

I am on my last round before christmas for some customers, I have already had tips from some and picked up my first christmas card from a customer.

Don't feel embarrased about it if you won't see them until next year.

always say see you next month , then look surprised and say "oh happy christmas bye the way" , you should say this as they are writing out a cheque or passing you money and expecting change, it puts them in a awkward position, just smile and look them straight in the eye, more often than that they will crumble, (espically the ladies of a certain age , not so much the fellas , unless of course :o :o)

I always let them say it to me and then I thank them warmly. I never initiate it.

Frankly even if my principles allowed it I would feel it was a way of embarrassing someone into giving me money.
It's a game of three halves!

I let the customers take the lead on this one.  Personally I would rather charge a good price all year round than bother with tips.

i have had no tips yet from the two monthly brigade , im now ( as you all are i assume ) trying to get everyone else done again before christmas . i dont give cards unless they have given to me first , as it would seem to me that i was asking for a tip . i also let them wish me a merry christmas first for the same reason .
Although my round is 4 weekly the majority of the tips i get will be from those done within 2 weeks of the big day !
I have no intention of tipping any of you very hard working , fine upstanding members of the community with no previous ( ! )
but i do wish each and every one of you and your families a very merry christmas and a prosperous new year .
Best wishes   Lloyd  . :)

I have had tips from my customers that i wont see until the new year, i have also refused (politely) tips from my elderly ones.
I cannot accept tips from pople that i know cant afford it, the response is always one of surprise but more importantly also of admiration, and i find you get referrals from these older customers, so in a way my morals make me more money than a one off couple of quid and i sleep soundly!

i am amazed and impressed at the amount of ethical window cleaners about, however the old ones are buggers, in my experience there the ones who always push you to do more "oh can you just do this and just do that" nobody minds giving a hand but they certainly now how to push it.
How do some of the old grannys manage to have a new kitchen done or a new car every three years amongst other things. Fair play to them i say, but dont feel sorry for all of them.
Makes you think what they were like 10 or 20 years ago bet not many people thought oh what a lovely dear, more like interfering middle aged woman.
My god whats got into me!
