What Would You Charge????????
« on: April 15, 2007, 07:43:42 pm »
Hi all

I've in business now for 2 to 3 weeks and have been sending out flyers to potential clients for office cleaning contracts which business has been a little slow - not because of the flyers. I had a telephone call from a restaurant owner requesting my services to do some carpet cleaning and he wants his windows cleaned as well - I have an idea on what to charge for the window cleaning BUT don't know what to charge for the carpet cleaning size wise is (4m - 7m and 2m - 4m). I don't own a carpet machine so I'm having to hire one in, here's what I've got so far:

Carpet Machine Rental = £24.98
5 Litre Carpet Detergent = £15.00
Spot & Stain Remover = £10.00
Window Cleaning = £15.00

Any feedback or advice would be grateful

I would advise subbing the carpet cleaning out to a professional carpet cleaner if I was you.

You will get a good finish which will keep your customer happy and you will make a bit on the price if you negotiate with the carpet cleaner.
It will also hopefully form an alliance between your company and the carpet cleaner for future jobs.

There must be loads of them near you (I am not unfortunately), but if you post a request on the carpet section of the forum then i am sure you will get a reply.

Hope this helps.

Hi Wilclean,

Have to agree with Andy on this one im afraid, restaurant carpets can be problematic, especially for those who have no experience, there is too much of "im a cleaner, i clean everthing, dont need experience or training" in the industry as it is, if c/c is something you want to get into, fair enough, get yourself trained and properly insured, in this instance, you have a regular contract with windows and the cleaning maybe, be foolish to take the risk in my opinion of doing the job, and leave your new client witha poor perception of your work.

If you pick your contractor carefully, he may even let you help on the job, and begin by showing you the ropes as it were, then when it comes to the training, you will have a head start so to speak.

The reality is though, as Martin stated, is that most people, just go ahead and do the job anyway, no training, no experience etc, at the end of the day, this is one of the reasons why a lot of clients have a hard time picking good contractors, they believe that all cleaning co's are the same, the only difference, being price.

Whatever you decide good luck, regards,

Rob
A world of difference....

Hi Wilclean

Don't tackel the carpet yourself is the best advice. i have to agree with Andy & robs comments

You need to understand what sort of carpet it is you are cleaning, natural or synthetic, or is it a wilton or axminster.

Different carpets need different procedures

How are you going to dry the carpet?

What "PH" will you leave the carpet in after cleaning?

What are you going to use to sanitize the carpet?

have you surveyed the carpet?

Has it de-laminated, will it buckle, is the backing latex, if it is what sort?, will the furniture dye run onto the carpets?

Are you insured if you trash the carpet? (treatments risk policy)

And thats just getting started, there are a mulitude of risks associated with carpet cleaning, for your own sake sub it out to someone who specialises! see the carpet cleaning forum and post a request for someone in your area to take on the job, offer to labour for free :)

commercial carpets in restaurants etc are usually a night mare for shrinking if you use a crap machine that puts too much water down and does not pick enough back up again. I would advise the same as everyone else, sub it out.........but if you do do it yourself then hire a proper machine not one of the silly little things you get from most hire shops cos you won`t get a good result and stand a good chance of shrinking the carpet, :o
