Which in-line heater?
« on: November 22, 2006, 07:13:34 pm »
Hello all,

I'm currently looking for an in-line heater to add to my carpet cleaning setup. Currently use a scorpion which is usually truckmounted. On occasions where carpets have not come up as well as had hoped I often think it must be due to the water not being hot enough.

Basically I would like something capable of heating water as hot as possible and for long periods of time as running off large tanks. I only know of Ashbys steamMate v2 and Solutions one. Any others recommended? I'm running hoses up to 75ft if that helps.

Cheers,

Huw.

V2 steammate-costa lot-worka lot and always achieves the desired effect! Wish i had bought one twenty years ago(they weren't made then-shame!) The rest pale into insignificance im afraid(tried, used ,bought and abused most!)

I have a V2 Steamate for sale. Hardly used, however, it is the lower pressure model, up to 150 psi (I believe). Can check with Ashbys about upgrading if you're interested.

v2  by far the best  , i hav tryed the rest now i use the best,  i use mine for over 100ft hose and it will still get upto steam ,  it seems alot better than the masterclean one, i asume the reason being is the v2 is 3000w  the masterclean 2000w

Huw,

I have been using an Ashby's V2 Steamate with a Scorpion (formerly Recoil) for a few years. I have tried various other ones but still find the V2 to be the best. You will see a significant improvement in your cleaning results - I can guarantee that!

It is more expensive but worth the extra expense. The downside is that if it needs repair it has to go back to Dartford. Mine has broken once in 2/3 years which is not bad - but the bill did come to £200 plus.

I have no idea what heater Nick is selling?

Good luck

Nigel

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm pretty sure i'll get the V2 steamMate. Can it be used easily with say a gun attachment for other purposes.

We clean a lot of portakabins where toilets and walls are stinking. I could see real use if I could generate steam for long periods of time if I could find a suitable attachment.

The attachment on ashbys website don't really fit the bill.

The heater solutions sell is the Mytee I think £385 the V2 upgraded is £650 all plus vat.

Cheers,

Huw.

Thanks Nigel I may be interested in the V2 you have for sale, I'll contact ashbys today to find out if they can upgrade it to the 500psi model.

all inline heater are limited to 3000w through a 13amp fuse.

all they can do is boost heat they will not keep up with the flow required to clean carpets. a steammate might produce steam but only through a single 01 jet which limits flow through the heater.

if any one is using their portable truckmounted you would be better buying a diesal hot box, then you will have all the heat you need, they cost about £800.

I'm using a Masterclean 2Kw through a single jet wand perfect at 50ft! and I have never tripped a fuse with it.

Mike,

Where's the best place to look for a diesel hot box?

We also do window cleaning and I have looked for a hot box to heat the water as it goes through the hose, a company called Zodi sell them in America but the UK authorised dealer has still not been given permission to sell them here! They run on propane I think.

Cheers,

Huw.

Gary you're right they will hit steam in small burst but not all the time thats why i always think its best to use hot water in the tank and let them just boost the heat.

Hew any pressure washing company will know how to get them, the best I've ever seen is the Portitechnica hot box, but tech-clean also do one.

I used to use one with my bane electric truckmount, they are brilliant.

only diesal-keresene-propane.

Imagine an industrial hot pressure washer but without a pump fitted, they are big & bulky but can heat 15lt a min to steam.
