DI RESIN- THE BIG TEST
« on: November 12, 2006, 07:03:27 pm »
hi all
has anyone out there tested different brands of di resin against each other? i'm di only (in soft water area). i'v tested dowex against purolite, both over a 12 month period each very accuratly and found that the dowex lasted for much longer. also when purolite started to read 001/002 tds it  would then shoot right up off the scale in no time as where dowex would hold the same tds reading for a lot longer. i use 2x 11ltr resin canisters in sequence so the above matters much for me.
please don't ask me how this happens to be as i don't know, but the information i give is honest and accurate.

SO, has anyone done the same & if so what were the results?? after all this will benefit us all wfp'ers :)

Mac,

Got the tip off this forum, you need to backflush it when you see it start to rise.
You do this by reversing the flow for a few minutes, then you should see your
TDS drop.

Send us you email address and I will inform you once the resin has arrived.

Cheers

Doug

 Tony,

Will send a mail later, the first backflush I did I managed to get 2500l extra,
it then went up to 001 and did the process again. Have managed to get a
futher 1000l and the TDS has just gone up tonight so I will try it again
  tomorrow.

The reason why it does this is tunnels are formed in your di vessel so when the
water enters your vessel it is flowing against only a portion of resin.
Backlushing gets rid of the tunnels which the water then runs through
resin that still has not been depleted.

  You learn something every day.

got your mail doug thanks, thats great advise for the flushing thing, i'm sat here thinking how much i could have saved myself over the last 3 years if i'd known this before.

had a quick look on net & it seems you may be able to deliver resin nationwide for about 11 + VAT (up tp 30kg). don't know if you've managed to get it any cheaper.
