When cleaning a house last time I was asked if I could remove splashes of masonary paint from the glass. This I did from about 4/5 windows, and I said I would do some more next time around. When I went back today to do a regular clean the customer came out and asked me not to do any more paint removing as I had scratched her windows. She showed me one of them which did have very deep scratches on it. She said another window at the back was also scratched.
I couldn't believe that I had done that as I was only lightly scraping and the paint was only blobs and not smears.
When I cleaned the back I inspected the other window but couldn't see any scratches, so I asked her to show me them, but she said, "oh it's not this window it's the other one", so I asked her to show me but she was unable to as there were no scratches.
I have read somewhere that it is very difficult or impossible to scratch glass with a razor blade, which effectively is what the unger scrapers is.
I didn't make any charge for removing the paint and no other windows are scratched. The scratches are quite long and deep so would have taken some doing as I only lightly used the scraper which one normally has to do, so does anyone have any suggestions/answers.
I offered that if it was proved that the scratches were caused by the use of a blade then I would pay for a new panel, fortunately it isn't too big.

Afternoon Dick,

Loads of this type of thing a few years ago, assuming that you used the scraper correctly, you should not have scratched the glass unless it was very old, any work like this is fraught with danger, so you should charge for this always,you should also inspect each panel carefully, before using the scraper and point out any blemishes, and get the client to sign these off.

No matter what you do in this instance, I think your customer will always think that you are responsible, personally I would replace the scratched panel foc as soon as possible, but ensure client knows that she is important to you and your business and you are doing this as a goodwill gesture, and are not accepting any liiability.

If their is mud on the glass mud contains small abraisive bits i.e glass, so becareful if mud on windows but if your only using a scraper and not rubbing the glass i would'nt have thought it was down to you. always make sure you wet the glass.
