Building my round
« on: September 16, 2006, 06:12:04 pm »
Went out last week for a day looking to build my round i.e shops pubs etc. Most of my round at the minute is houses and looking to expand on the commerical side.I got a total of 10 new jobs and 13 waiting to get back to me just woundering if that was a good day out canvasing cause ive never done that side of it before.Must admit it is very boring and plus getting knocked back most of the time makes you want to give up.
Going out again next week for a day so if anyone with any advice please let me know!!
Cheers lads

I will give a tip.

If you are canvassing for domestic work only canvass in the evening or the weekend. the customers you need will be working.

A freind of mine as just moved 60 miles away to Manchester. He still travels back to do his work which only takes 2 days.

Hes staying in Manchester for 6 months, but just out of intrest and curiosty he thought he would try canvassing some domestic work down there. The first house he canvassed he quoted this chap £15.00. Well he could not beleive the mans reaction, he was nearly Manhandled of the mans Premises. The guy went bonkers saying the last w/c only charged a fiver. So my freind said where his he then?

He was a bit shaken up by the mans response and wondered if w/c were really doing the windows to cheap down there. He calmed himself down and decided to carry on. Two hours later he had £240 of new work. In fact after that first house he picked up the next twelve houses in a row. He says all the work is a doddle,"I can go really slow and still earn £40 an hour.

So the moral of the story is dont ever give in because you never know when things might look up.

Nel.

I agree with Nel, that used to be my favorite line "where is he then" or another one is "that's why he hasn't come back mate". ::)

You do need to be a bit thick skinned to do canvassing but its a great lesson in life skills. You thought you were a window cleaner but suddenly you are a salesman with all that that entails. dealing with people is an art that is worth learning.
