The majority of our business is window cleaning - we have some 600 residential customers and several high street names as commercial clients.

From our point of view this is a target market that we already know well and over the next six months we shall be expanding our business into this captive market & the bigger carpet cleaning sector, there will be training before we commence and we are buying equipment as this is written.

The business is fortunate to have two vehicles and good staff, who are excited about this additional means of earning extra revenue.

Both of our vehicles are fitted out with DIY water fed pole units ( these are not shoddy and ham-fisted and have been put together with a lot of thought)

Looking round at the options for carpet cleaning machines we will be using portables but I was wondering whether anyone has ever built their own truckmount (DIY) and if so can you give me a run down of how you did it. I am not attempting this but am just curious.

 I have been there and done it; looking back in hindsight, I would have rather got a bank loan and bought a machine.
By the sounds of your set up a Prowler is probably the better option for you having the water already on your van the Prowler is a lighter machine than many of the T/M.
This machine can be lifted on and off the van when required and from what your saying window cleaning is your main business so I would think your water tanks are larger than us T/mounters use. Therefore, weight is going to be an issue.

Your right Pete, but the sleepless nights I had making to was not worth it.
True to say it made me money and is still making money proves it can be done.
To my knowledge they are both still out there somewhere sucking rugs.

Dave, how did you make a truckmount? How was it powered etc? Would be very interested to know.

The first machine was built 10 years ago on the Bane clene principle only difference was the machine was not demountable. The second machine was the same as the first but with larger Vac and water pumps with a diesel burner for the heat, both ran on electric and served me well and to this day they are still out there sucking rugs like good on’s

my dad has one of your TM Dave, the one from John Flynn, its still going strong its had a make over and new fresh water tank, stainless steel, it has 1000 psi pump and roots blower and kerosene heater, (gives you steam if you want it) its as good as many real TM s out there !!! and is cheaper to run as its electric so no worry about engines going wrong, and no fuel bill.

PS. its still earning good money every day!! ill post a pic of it later on.

Nice to hear they are still going well lads.
There has been many a time I wished I'd have keep them, like at the end of each year when I see my fuel bill
Apart from John who suffered ill health each and every one who has had one of those machines has built their business considerably and are now running Petrol Truck-Mounts will a turn over that many would envy.

I went for a look when JOhn Flynn was selling it, it looks great now, perhaps John could have gotten rid faster if he had done it up a bit.   John if you are reading this hope things are going well for you in your new venture.
