Babybel Wax!!
« on: September 06, 2006, 01:29:35 pm »
Hi Guys

Just been to clean a cream carpet where the clients daughter had used the wax of a babybel cheese to recolour the carpet :o

Removeved excess wax with a terry cloth and iron, first time i had done this and was quite impressed with how much wax was removed, then treated stain with citrus gel.

The problem i have is that after cleaning there was a pinkish haze where the wax had been, when rubbed with a cloth there was no colour transfer.

The customer was chuffed but i was left wondering if there was anything else i should have done?

Thanks
Andrew

Ive often wondered what the best way to get wax off a carpet was. Was the terrytowel wet when you ironed over the top of it at all? Sky

With coloured waxes like this there is a risk of colour transfer using an iron. Cirus gel may have removed it by itself.

Hi guys

Skywalker71 - Used dry terry cloth although i have read somewhere about using blotting paper(maybe a bit expensive). But after reading johns reply maybe its not such a good idea.

Paul - No mate in swansea, would need my passport and a packed lunch to venture of the M4 corridor ;D

John - you are not the first person to raise doubts about using the iron method, as a newby i tried flushing first with no joy, then citrus gel again with no joy. My steam unit packed up over the weekend so this was all i could think of. The customer was impressed but something was bugging me, lesson learnt. :(

Thanks for the replies

Andrew

I would try eco spotter from Solutions first.
Then Prochem redex followed by heat transfer.
If that did not work I would then use Sodium Metabisulphate
after that give up.

Thanks Paul

What is heat transfer, is that the technical term for using an iron?

A bit off topic but what should i be carrying in my van product wise? I know everybody has theyre own prefered suppliers but i would be interested to know. I started off using an Ashbys starter pack but moved over to prochem as my local supplier stocked the range.

My current products are

Ultrapac Renovate, Traffic Clean, Fibre and fabric Rinse, Citrus Boost, Citrus Gel, And the four spotters for various uses.

Any advice would be great

Thanks

Andrew

First heat transfer is used with a steam iron yes.

You must first try to remove the wax residue from the carpet before doing this though as a the pigmentation problem that John refered to is more likely to ocurr where heat is applied and the pigment is liberated from the wax.

Since the Eco Spotter is also highly effective against most inks, it not only keeps most of the pigment encapsulated in the post-wax emmulsion, it also tackles the pigment released whilst the wax was in its' molten state.

Once the wax is removed you can then concentrate on the dye/colour transfer using your prefered chemical.

I carry lots of different chemicals on my van but the 2 main spotters that are used for 80% of the stain removal are Solutions number 3 and Solutions Eco spotter which are both excellent ( they are micro splitting spotters)
