Hi all just wondering how your all getting on working in the recent constant rain ?
I’m in the West Sussex feels like it’s been raining for ever,one dry day this week,so been working in the rain to earn some money not ideal working conditions ,also not the best for paying customers but what do you do ? We’re all in the same boat no work no pay.
To be honest I’ve also found it dragging me down mentally,as in fed up getting soaked,fed up with customers comments ,knew you would come today as it’s raining etc also feeling anxious about customers thoughts about cleaning in the rain.

I just take it on the chin, I hate working in the rain anyway. I will work in light rain but my rule of thumb is, if the rain is hitting off the windows they don’t get cleaned.
I don’t think it’s a great look turning up at a customers house dressed as a trawlerman and proceeding to clean their windows😆

I've averaged 3 days a week which is my thing anyway. I still get some customers text on the day asking me not to come because its raining.
Just imagine if this was 20 or so years ago all this rain would have been snow which would probably have been here for weeks before thawing.
It will soon be spring/summer when we'll all be moaning that its too damn hot to work!

It’s been the worst start to a year I can remember, have worked through light rain, but no way I’m cleaning windows when it’s lashing it down.

Daz chooses to clean in all weathers, but I’m not that desperate. I find it embarrassing cleaning in pouring rain!

All you can be is honest and reliable. That’s what the custards want. With this in mind they will have to accept occasionally you will call and work on a day they may not like.
Tell them you now need to work in most weathers because of the volume of customers you have.
Treat your best customers the same. Reasonable people will understand.
A couple of wet coats, sit in the van for very heavy downpours, but just get on with it.

I can work in most bad weather for 5 hours per day! Just be prepared and have at least 2 waterproof jackets with you and swap them at lunchtime.

I also have audiobooks/podcasts downloaded  to my phone to listen to.

I have zero anxiety about cleaning customers windows in the rain as they are used to it as I've been doing it since I swapped to wfp 16 years ago.

I would much rather clean windows in bad weather than get behind schedule so I still get days off i choose to take off.🙂👍

I really don't care if the truth be told.....😄

It makes zero difference to the windows whether i clean them when it's dry and it chucks it down an hour later or vice versa

I remember when it rained virtually every day all through the 6 week school summer holidays a few years ago....it can be awful in the spring/summer too....

I work in very hot weather too. It got to 39c on the  hottest day ever recorded up here a few years ago. I did finish earlier than usual though that day!(1pm)😄👍

Hard with DD customers but I have decided to pay them back in cash when I return the next month. Its a tough call if you are relying on the money.

I work mon to thurs and have friday off, ive only missed 1 day due to heavy rain with strong winds. That week i just worked the friday instead so ive completed all my normal work evey week. I have had a lot of skips, way more than usual but i was 2 weeks behind from christmas so it made no odds im still not caught up as i have a bit more work than i need.

I have worked in some daft weather but apart from some skips ive had zero complaints. I just get on with it no matter what in general, i have to work and i think most people understand so dont let the odd one put you off.

Its so much easier to work in rain, i barely need to rinse, windows closed and no one in the way. Give me rain anyday than red hot sweaty summers with hayfever and suncream in your eyes, thats when its hard work.

You seem to find the most strange way to operate your business, missing a MONTH ? whats wrong with missing that day and starting again the next day if its that bad?

What do you mean you pay them back in cash, you take the DD then give them it back in cash ? is this real ? why dont you just credit the payment to their account.

I have a set spiel ready for the vanishingly small number of people who question me if I clean in drizzle or light rain.

"Whether it's good or bad weather - I view it as removing 8 weeks worth of dirt and muck every time I visit."

 agreed with hose pipe bans and confiscating our vans and even banning buckets and squeegees  every drop counts they said
and endorsed massive fines and prison for repeat offenders for jet washers car washers and window cleaners  and so on
One even said with a straight face  we  now permanently live in a semi arid country  !!!
The next day it rained and rained for six weeks

We are not affected by a hose pipe ban but a drought order could affect our work but unlikely due the the health and safety executive s ruling on safe working . But think it’s very unlikely we will be in this position any time soon

I manage it with 300+ customers only working 20 hours a week with plenty of spare time!

Exactly, that's what I like about this job. If I spend a full day then I would be finished by Wednesday but once I have made a few ton I slow down and want to go home.

Been in my mates garage Friday and Saturday getting all the warning lights out. One was about the hub so we fitted a new one and sensor. The light only needed the plug pushed in as the clip was broke and lastly the brake needed a new sensor. Only have to fit a new exhaust tomorrow before the Mot. Its so easy with a ramp and my tank was half full.

Once you get to 60 up here we get a bus pass and know its time to slow down.

We aren’t made of candy gloss you know. 

If you don’t like working in the rain, and don’t mind losing income, then don’t work.

If you’d rather have the money in your pocket, and choose yourself to have time off when you choose, rather than being forced to have the rainy days off..,,. Just crack on.

Train your customers, they won’t care in the end. It’s your business.

Like Daz says, if it affected the quality of our work, then what happens when you get a wet day just after you’ve been, or a wet afternoon?

This is the UK, it rains all the time.
