Mains water leak.......
« on: August 21, 2025, 08:26:24 am »
Big leak on Monday afternoon around here(Warrington)...no water. Luckily I nipped round to my mums and filled up my tank there with a small DI vessel so no missed work days. Her tap water is only 036 so no problem.

The water is discoloured and there is another leak now! Luckily I'm not working after today(Thursday)

Do you think i should change my pre filters again?only changed them a few weeks ago

It would do no harm to inspect them and see what they look like. But the water companies generally advise you to leave your taps on and run the water until its clear, so you should do that before hooking up your water to your filters ?

Makes no difference (the water is still brownish yellow)no matter how long I run the tap for...

I suppose that's what my sediment filters for so I'm just cracking on and hope the filters do their job..

Water pressure is low too(20psi) but my RO still works!

Worst thing is no one can get out of the close as  United Utilities have had to dig up the whole road so no access in or out....around 40 cars and 100 residents can't leave. Luckily my missus parked outside the close on her way home so im off to the gym in her car tonight!

Hope your on the mend  now Danny after your op?

I wouldn't switch on my r/o until the water has cleared up.

Actually thats not what your sediment filter is for (removing brown /yellow) out of your water. Its literally to remove "sediment"... anything larger than probably 5 microns. I don't even know how big a micron is, but i know its a defined size of a particle. The sediment is removed so it doesn't damage your membrane.

 Perfect Windows...

Put up a post a long time ago showing two glasses of water both 0 TDS , one was brown /yellow and one was clear . They'd both been through an RO and filters. But in short, your filters are only designed to remove particles and chlorine from clean water. Nothing else.

Usually the yellow in the water is microscopic sediment that has been stirred up by work on the main it happens all the time when water has been  take from the main much faster than normal or when it’s been flushed through it normally settles within a few hours or so .

Well the pure water is clear after RO and DI so it's doing its job. Luckily the repair is done now and road open.

I'll check my pre filters this weekend and replace them if they look bad. I'll also flush my RO for 30 mins.

I changed these pre filters 2 weeks ago.....🙄

Ive just replaced both of them then flushed my RO for 20 mins. Hopefully that's the end of the water issues round here!

I thought I'd better change both to be on the safe side.  I want to protect my membrane as much as possible.
