Citrus chewing gum remover?
« on: July 29, 2006, 08:26:43 am »
Hello
I cleaned a tiled carpet last night and it had a few pieces of chewing gum, so i used a prochem bozuca, it took most of the chewing gum out but then left a stain in the carpet where I had sprayed the citrus chewing gum remover from the bozuca. I tryed hwe on the stain and no luck.

can anyone help me please.

the tiled carpet is bichumen backed but i am not sure whether it is the bichumen seeping up through the carpet.
the carpet is dark cream.

has this ever happened to anyone?

cheers for your help

bruce

Hi

I have seen this before with the Bazooka.

Went into a travel Agents who had had their gum removed, left what looked like water based circular like marks all over the carpet (like Cowpats!)

If your HWE won't remove it, it may be permanent? have you tried spotting it or using a LM approach?

i may be mistaken ...............................................but i thought  that with bitumen backed carpets the citrus gel has worked its way to the backing of the carpet....and started to dissovle it??????

i was told to use citrus gel sparingly ??? ??? ???
life is one big learning experience!!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

Bitumen is both soluble in hydrocarbons of which citrus gel will be one mixed with a thickener and perfume, and is also softened by heat.

The combination of both these has probably resulted in the bitumen being disolved and migrating to the surface.

I would try white spirit on a towell followed by HWE with a strong in tank detergent and heat.

It is important to add the white spirit to the towell and not the tile.

It is posible a residue will remain.

Cheers

Doug

If possible could you swap the tiles around to a less noticable area? or might they have spare tiles in a storage cupboard somewhere? ;)
