Anyone got tracker in vans
« on: June 23, 2017, 02:52:30 pm »
Really sorry to hear one of our fellow window cleaners having his van stolen.it seams to be coming more and more common.
I had an email from a company called asset monitoring solutions earlier this week offering vehicle tracking for £8.95. I assume that is plus vat but even so it looks pretty good to me when u consider the consequences.
Anyone else got tracker?
If so how much are you paying per month and who is it with.

Regards

Terry

All our vans are tracker using RAM TRACKER

5 vans cost around £100 per month

Get loads of reports on routes, speeds, key on/off and 24/7 live feed

How much do you save on the van insurance with them fitted?

Whereabouts on the vehicle is the tracker situated?
We look at them, they look through them.

Different location on each van - you can't easily get to it and its not advertised on the van its tracked, so i don't think its something your average tea leaf will find

Cheers. Do they have to be powered by the van battery or do they have an internal battery?

Both - they run off the battery - they take a feed from the loom but have a battery back up - i.e. We still have a signal location even when the battery has been removed

Can these trackers be used also to keep an eye on your employee.  I.e to make sure they aren't bunking off work or taking 2 hour lunch breaks, taking too long on jobs being lazy etc...  I know you can get dash cams that pick up motion but wondered what else you can do with these trackers, defo sounds worth it for the peace of mind and security of it all.

Yes it gives a complete breakdown from ignition on, stops starts routes taken, speeds travelled and from that I can get a report of speeding - miles travelled - roads where stops were made.

So yes, I can see where they are, and what they have done, so if they are at an address I see arrival time and leave time, - and from that I know if the job is within the time allocated or if any strange detours have occurred

For me tracking employees is only a tiny advantage. The biggest advantage is pinpointing exactly where customers are and settling disputes (either with employees or customers).

I have a much simpler, less detailed tracker in my truck for my own peace of mind should it disappear one day.
It's one of the TK series and can be bought outright for around £15 with a hardwire kit adding another tenner.
Call it via mobile and it sends a map reference via text and it's current speed. Open the mic and you can listen to the miscreants, assuming it's located near the cabin. Put in on a cheap data plan  for constant monitoring.

Simple but effective. Insurance company likes it too.

yes good for that - we had a hotel we cleaned then got a call from the owner saying the manager was unhappy as we were their 'only 5 mins' in fact i sent him a copy of the data - arrival 10.12AM leaving 12.25 - hardly the 5 mins that was stated
got paid - never had the issue again with that manager at that hotel
