typical!!
« on: June 08, 2017, 02:46:10 pm »
So last night i forgot to fill my van tank up and stick the immersion heater on. So today back to using cold water, which on all accounts is ok as I worked with cold water all the time before.
Whats typical is that most of the houses today were covered in bird muck. Virtually every window. Now yes, your sometimes lucky and its just a white dollop of muck which easily washers off and thankfully i had a lot like this. But i also had quite a few which were baked on and had to soak leave and then come back and scrub off. So yes cold water can tackle them ok as we all know. But hot water sure would have made it easier n quicker!

I suppose next update on my hot water was my electric bill. It took me a while to get round to phoning up my supplier and finding my price per kw. Though kicking myself for not doing so earlier and taking it for granted i was on a day n night tarrif. When in actual fact i wasnt, but paying 16 per kw so that was 32p per kw hour just for the immeraion heater. So gonna get quite a high bill but thankfully changed my rates n electric box so i now have 15p day per kw and 8p per kw at night. Which will be much more suitable for my pocket

You only think that's bad, last night my parts per billion system broke down so had to go back to a 000ppm system, I then forgot
to switch on my heater so couldn't get the water to the sweet spot and to top it all off I have run out of both Vision and
Added Sparkle.
I then decided to head out anyway only to find the local egg factory had exploded covering every property I do with hot egg,
what are the odds eh, you couldn't make it up.

it doesnt really make any difference mate whether you use hot or cold water.when you take into account the extra cost of heating water up its an expense you can do without.

i always soak stubborn bird muck ,clean a few other windows and then come back to it.9 times out of 10 it scrubs off no problem.any that doesnt then i simply use my scraper thats already on my pole.

i can usually tell just by looking at it whether itll come off with one scrub! ;D

If the bird poo is on a ground floor window, I can usually tell how easy it will be to remove just by licking it  ;D

The good thing is ive learnt from the best. To have a new van with heated seats etc for added comfort, stick some prices up to cover the extra cost.  ;D    hence ive done some needed price increases which more than covers the small increase in electric cost to have comfort n speed of hot water.   ;D

Hi Nathan
After many problems my immersion is now running.
Basically bought a van, put in a 350 tank and 2kw 14" immersion.
Of course, when it got hot it leaked, I thought I had a mechanical flange but I didn't so Toolstation sorted that.
Then the main fuse kept blowing, turned out the plastic cover was full of water!
All sorted and ran my first warm clean the other day, wow! 60 degrees.
My thoughts are that cleaning and  rinsing were quicker and more effective, the warmth was fantastic, I felt that it was brilliant.
Because of the cost and the fact that I only work 3.5 /4 days a week I will only use it on first cleans until the winter.
Most of my round is either £12 or £15 and needs to be  15 or 18 so 3 pounds short on all jobs.
Bit wary of bunging 3 pounds on after Teresas hiccup!
Advice on the best course of action to increase would be a help.
Yes warm is a luxury but it does make you feel good and your day is better for it.
I spent years teaching cleaning science and heat plus chemical reaction plus agitation leads to the most effective clean.
so try washing dishes in cold water. Hot water, fairy and a scrub pad give the best clean.
To put in in relation to WFP, heat plus pure water and agitation with a brush gives an excellent clean, however I think I am drifting into an area which might cause a lot of aggro so my disclaimer is that cold pure water will clean to an excellent standard.
One thought I did have was that Ionics was pretty quick on launching hot facilities, although we knock them on the price they are very knowledgeable and innovators.
That's it, I like hot too mate! don't knock me for my comments! 2 glasses of cote du rhone!

Glad you got there in the end Combat 1.

I had to resort and plumb my hoses n main reel, which is now fixed in the van (mostly due to electric motor) and even now ive had to fix a slight leak. Didnt tighten thread enough on the immersion side. But its been running good for last 3 weeks, leak free.

What helps me with cost as well, is that my tank is quite well insulated with bubble wrap silver lined insulation. It holds the temp virtually all day. So after the first day (as shown in one of my vids) by end of the night when i top my water up. I mostly have a start temp of 40 degrees. So i may only have the imersion on for over ten hours on the first night (sunday) and perhaps only 8-9 rest of the time.

It certainly is nice in cold days, as i have my main hose around my waist with holsters (posted many a times about that) its like having a mini radiator with you all the time.

Its brilliant on first cleans, bird mess n algae etc comes straight off.
Running costs, before i found out my price per kw unit was 16p even at nights. So i was running at 32p per kw for over ten hrs per night.  Ive sorted that so its now only 8p per kw making it only 16p per hr for me which is more manageable.

£120 add on job this morning all done in 2 and a half hours with cold pure, virosol and cif for stubborn grey sills.(small 3 bed semi)

she was over the moon with the job and so was i.job satisfaction is much higher when you transform a property like that.the algae and general dirt was immense.full UPVC clean and flatish conny roof plus windows.(luckily i could clean the roof from a flat roof).

theres no way i would of been quicker with hot water.i would tell myself that it was but it would be around the same timewise.

ive also picked her up as a £12 8 weekly maintenance clean too so happy days. :)
