Window cleaning or is there something else ?
« on: April 23, 2017, 05:32:04 pm »
I do not come on here very often these days... But thought being a week off I would see whats new here....

The other week whilst working on a local estate a lady walks over starts saying the normal stuff about wanting a honest, reliable cleaner blah, blah.... but also tells me the local council put a letter in everyone's door warning that spring brings out the window cleaners, odd job peeps and that residents should be wary and only take on people with check-able details etc.

Well this past saturday whilst being to asked to do a few quotes I am in the same area...go to the potential customers house...chit, chat, quote etc and he then says.... want some more work?... Of course I do extra is always nice at the right price.... so he is obviously the street 'dude' and takes me to 6 other peoples houses introduces me and I get 5 out of the 7.... but what is striking me these days is that if we look at the services we provide the unsung hero is being traceable.....

How do you feel your image has changed over the years providing your services to the area's you work in ?

The more I know the less I know I know ...

Not been a window cleaner long but i have always tried to appear professional, giving my full name and address on all correspondances and tried to appear more of a business than a window cleaner if you get my drift, signwritten van, logod uniform etc.

Ive no idea how it worked in the past, some people wont care if the local scroat turns up in his vest and trackies and speaks with an irish accent as long as he is reliable and cheap. Others will want the guy who they can trust and know who is is and his business details. Doesnt really matter but may as well cover all bases and go for the more professional approach.

You should be checking people details and wanting to know who they are if they are going to be on your property, if anything gets damaged or goes missing then it would be a good idea to know who they are.

Having said that if you have nothing of value lying about and you are a trustworthy person you may not give it a second thought.

Thankfully over the many years i have gain a great reputation and have expanded my business due to word of mouth. But it sure helps doing a great job and also for me its a professional appearance and attitude.
Which is also reflected in my pricing....a bit like that great restaurant you may go to, you tell others  "its a bit pricey but you get what you pay for!" And thats why you keep going back to it.........thats me but only with window cleaning

What's wrong with an Irish accent?

Nothing at all

unless they are wearing trackies and a vest, then its not my cup of tea.. but each to their own.

Didn't hurt Mary Peters or Barry McGuigan.

Nowt wrong with an irish accent......having said that them travellers have a bad rep.

I have only met one or two decent ones, not saying they are all like that mind you but in general they can be bad news.

It would have done if they had knocked on my door offering to clean my windows.

The only point I was making is some people would prefer a well presented professional looking guy to clean there windows than some scruffy gypo.

Most of my customers have Irish accents, but  given where I live and work that comes as no surprise.

Some of them are travellers as well. I get on really well with them and have found if you treat them with respect they respond in kind.

my image has changed quite a bit over 24 years in window cleaning.nowadays its  nice vans,sign writing,uniform, business cards,WFP,electronic payments,printed invoices(for posh customers/commercial mainly)etc,etc.

i think it makes a massive difference esp if you work in posher more affluent areas(people are usually more guarded).it portrays a more professional image.

i see myself how i used to be from time to time(the odd windy with old bangers with ladders tied on with rope, jeans, scruffy trainers,no sign writing, notebook and pen).i always nod and say hello if their working near me.they always seem to be just about scratching a living together.im glad im not like that anymore but i was for 15 years!! ;D
price higher/work harder!
