Public liability renewal
« on: March 24, 2017, 03:01:16 pm »
Just had it through from gleaming (hiscox) - £181.50 for £1 mill worth of cover , is that a decent price?
Sole trader , £1 mill of cover , property worked on covered , £1000 cover for tools

Depends if you want good comprehensive cover or not I suppose.
A basic public liability no fills policy for whatever individual service you offer I would say is not worth the paper it's written on which is why you can get it dirt cheap.

I did actually used to go for the cheapest £1 mill cover but then when I read smurfs comments about 'property worked on' I ask the insurer and they said no - but I am covered if my ladders falls onto someone's car  ???
I said what about if I put someone's window through with my ladder, they said I wouldn't be covered- and that's when I stopped buying the cheapest possible cover

When I shopped around for quotes for all the services I wanted covered found it an nightmare. Also no others could  match the comprehensive cover gleaming (hiscox) could offer as standard http://www.gleaminginsurance.co.uk/cleaners-insurance-cover.html Maybe of interest to listen to the audio on the home page too http://www.gleaminginsurance.co.uk/

I'm also betting Nathan is not covered properly if at all for all the services he offers either . If so that is so unprofessional. lol
Seriously you need to get better cover than you have as it only  takes a cockup and your screwed.

If you only clean windows you are paying for a lot of cover you don't need with gleaming like pressure washing, carpet cleaning end of tenancy cleaning.,loss of keys .
I just had a look and gleaming work out over double  what I pay for 5million with A plan.
Don't get me wrong some of the policy's out there are useless but with A plan your covered for property worked on  etc.

I would check the small print as if say you clean conservatory roofs etc will they pay up if something goes wrong.

I found A-plan a waste of my time to be honest when I was looking for a quote as they could not offer what I wanted. That is why I went with gleaming and was so glad I did after my little mishap.

To be honest I only clean windows.
I don't do any fsg, solar panels or con roofs. My work is pretty much all commercial window cleaning and no other type of exterior or interior cleaning.

I renewed last week I made them clarify I was covered for both wfp and ladder, property worked on height restrictions etc and they came back with what I wanted and needed they also do my van insurance for tank declared on my separate van policy.

A plan and couple of others are now starting to understand the window cleaning industry insurance like simply business is useless years ago I had a policy with them and it covered nothing.

So can I ask what services (activities) are you actually covered for Nathan on that policy as you don't just clean windows.
Not being funny but sounds like that policy is not worth the paper it is written on.  Stop being tight and get yourself proper cover. lol

Seriously not  being covered for all the activities you do is just plan daft if you ask me.  Also when put on the spot when a customer ask are  you insured  when doing  the likes of  gutter clearing, pressure washing, using chems, etc, etc do you just lie to them? lol

Gleaming (hiscox) may not be for everyone but after my little mishap I cannot recommend them highly enough.
