Smash!
« on: February 27, 2017, 08:58:34 pm »
Oh I felt very pleased with myself today. Did a small commercial job before the rain, a few houses while dry and another small commercial at the end as the heavens opened.

I was parked in a road with poor parking and which had large trees right on the pavement edge and which leaned into the road a few inches. So I parked really close to my custy but with a couple of inches to spare between the car in front, a neighbour's driveway and this tree.

I was quite proud of my parking and did the job, opened the back left hand door and SMASH! The door blew out of my hand and as there was just enough spring in it on the hinge for the glass to hit a knarled bit of tree and shatter the window.

It stayed in place except for a tiny hole and the rest crazed over and I spent the next fifteen minutes taping it up with black gaffer tape inside and out. Went home and phoned Alexander Swan who confirmed it was covered under glass damage (even though it wasn't a windscreen) and that my excess would be £90 (  >:( ) - but hey ho.

National windscreens phoned me at 3pm and with much sucking of teeth along the lines of "none in stock" and a later call of "is it clear, green or privacy glass?" will now phone me back tomorrow.

Might as well have stayed home - made £150 but lost £90 and have to drive round all gaffered up until it can be done properly.
It's a game of three halves!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident.

Why not look at this as an annual expense rather than today's expense.

A full tank of diesel lasts me about a month, so I'm inclined to see filling the tank as a monthly expense rather than a daily one. I filled the tank today and as we only did 2 houses the diesel cost more than the days takings. It makes me feel better to mentally spread the cost of the fill over a month.

On the up side it could have been worse. Once they find the glass its a matter of just fixing it in. Had the door also got damaged that would have been much more drama.

Thanks for the sympathy Spruce - if it had been the door it would have been a small dent at most which now the van is five years old I would have lived with ...

It's no biggie really. Doesn't stop me working.

That's the problem with self employed when expenses like this pop up its always double whammy money wise.

I had the day off last Thursday as I was having two wisdom teeth extracted. It cost me £225 for the teeth altogether plus 200 quid of work lost for the day.

Last month my van broke down as cost me a grand to fix plus time off. I might as well of had the month off in Spain instead.

Yer, not seen a V3 yet. My top section was badly worn but didn't snap. Number 2 looked fine but just went. Nothing lasts forever. If I get another year out of the new sections I cant complain.
