40/40 membrane
« on: November 22, 2016, 05:55:28 pm »
Hi guys my system froze up yesterday think the frost has ruined the membrane water only coming out at 15 before goes through resin but still at 15 once through resin. Do I need to replace both the membrane and resin? Thanks

well really you need to work out your rejection rate to see if the membrane is faulty , whats the tap tds going in, could be your resin froze and stayed in clumps inside the vessel or still has frozen bits in it so not working effectively enough, have you actually opened the di vessel to look?

Hi yes I opened the resin it's 650 2 man set up double di canisters and they looked fine. I'm just wondering if the ro is ok I'll change the resin this and hopefully it brings it to 0. It was at 0 before everything froze though so I can only think the frost has done it.

What was it coming out of the membrane at before it froze?

If its coming out of ro at 15 and then still 15 after di then something is wrong with your vessel .

It normally comes out of ro around 2-4 the vessels were frozen solid so if I change the resin hopefully should sort it. Never happened in 10 years Wfp. I've ordered a new 40/40 membrane also just in case it's knackered from the frost. Stupid mistake normally have heater on timer for when forecast to freeze. Thanks for replays

Hang on let me get this right before frost it was coming out of membrane at fifteen after frost it's still coming out of membrane at fifteen how that make your membrane need changing

No before the frost it was zero perfect as always. Had to thaw everything out yesterday before got out to work. Worked without di canisters as the van was already filled before the frost came so water at zero. Then filled up last night as usual and this morning had risen to 16 and the resin isn't bringing it down either

your confusing things Mr T. If your tds was 15 after the membrane before the frost and is now still coming out at 15 after the frost then your membrane is fine, i would focus more on the di vessel and resin. Best to empty them then check the riser tube etc and fill with new resin (1 di vessel at a time)

It was zero before the frost. Van was refilled last night after frost

ok got you, to be honest even coming out at 15ppm i wouldn't be in a rush to change it yet thats still pretty good (thats roughly what mine is although my input tds is very high). You could mess about slightly with the rejection rate to help bring it down a little more depending on how quick you need the pure water made.
