Has anyone phased out the  use of cheques for payment? If so how did you go about it?

I only have the one customer who pays via a cheque. But its not something ive phased out.
I would have thought, like most shops do with certain payments or amounts, to start implimenting a sur charge for cheque payments. This is something im implimenting for my clients who choose to pay cash rather than online options.

Iv got 1 customer who pays by cheque too , it's a pain as she's never in so Iv got to leave a S.A.E. with a stamp on it so she sends it through the post . From April I'm going to add a couple of quid on unless she pays online to cover the cost of stamps and envelopes

We still get about 80-100 cheques a week. Barclays charge us £1.50 each to pay into the business a/c. I now get the customers to make them out to me rather than the business and pay them into a private a/c and transfer the whole lot once a week via bacs

i still get a  few cheques(around 25-30 a month).why phase them out?some customers prefer paying by cheque due to not having cash on them/dont do online banking etc.

ironically i clean a financial  services office(pensions and tax consultancy) and they always pay by cheque  even though bank details are on invoices for BACS payments.older customers too who dont have cash on them its often the only other way of getting payment off them there and then.
price higher/work harder!
