Opinion/Advice needed
« on: October 09, 2016, 05:10:25 pm »
I am in need of your opinion/advice.

For over 10 years now i have cleaned an old hotel in our town.
It is a mix of Georgian pane, old ledded and normal wooden sash windows.

The ledded windows are the problem. On just a few, they have leaked in slightly over the years.
One of the girls that work there came running out the other day after i had cleaned half the hotel.
"The boss says dont use the water pole thingy on the ledded ones any more"
Apparently they are having some of the really old ones replaced.

I said ok i will speak to the manager (he doesnt get back off holiday until this Wednesday)
The trouble is the building is 3 story high with gravel floor.
My opinion is even if cloths were used it would cause more problems (snagging etc.)
Also it is going to be a lot more time consuming hence i would have to increase price.

What would you do?

Tristan

Manage their expectations. Have a guided walk round the offending windows inside to see the extent of the problem and see if you can ameliorate the situation.

Not do anything that would be dangerous or unsafe. No parapet clambering or unnecessary ladder work.

Maybe turn the flow right down on the troublesome panes and/or go inside and buff them up and wipe away leakage. But if it takes extra time then they should expect to pay more.

Their old leaky windows are the problem, not you.

Be prepared to walk away if continuing gives you a "bad feeling".

Thanks Granville - good advice.

The thing that worsens the situation is the person who is coming to fit the new ledded panes
has said not to use wfp on ledded windows it damages them.

I thought thanks a bunch Mr .
I have had this with decoraters on wooden frames.
and the" dont clean our new windows it is self cleaning glass - the glazer said not to clean them with wfp "
No reasoning with these guys.
Trouble is they are feeding negative thinking to our customers.

I have a couple like that,  I turn the water off rub the window with the brush then with fan jets i hold the brush well off the glass and spray, with pencils just turn flow down to a trickle n rinse,  doesn't completely solve it but works well enough

I have been close to dropping this job before.
Someone came in to undercut me . So I said I would match the price.

Maybe I'm a fool. Thing is it is slap bang in the middle of some of my good work .

Anyway I will see what happens through the week.

I would never drop my price. If you have been doing it ten years then you should have increased the price each year not drop it just because some numpty wants to do it cheaper surley? More fool you bud for cutting the price  ???

Time to walk away methinks and let some numpty take on the hassle   ::)roll
