Broken down seals
« on: August 09, 2016, 11:25:50 pm »
You know the black oily residue you get from cheap or perished seals in the bottom corners of the glass, which also runs down the upvc and leaves it all yellow.

I've started giving them a heavy dose of neat TFR and they come up a treat.

I have had one of these lately the rubber seems more exposed that the newer window. The owner said the window are 30 yesrs old, This is just a case of the rubber breaking down and washing onto the frames . How I have stopped  this bleeding onto the frames is tapering off   rubber so that the rubber is exposed and sprayed them with clean laquear.  So far so good we will see how it works long term.

It tends to come back though so are more hassle than they are worth if you ask me.

I persevered on one job for 4 consecutive months as looked great when cleaned but everytime I went back the sticky black residue came back. That was using a strong mix of ubik 2000 not tfr though but still done my head in so that job got dumped. It was a very well paid job too but was glad to get rid. Old town rings any bells Lance. If so you are very welcome to it  ;D

I saw some broken down seals, today. I was going to stop but they had already called their breakdown service.
It was the RAC Lion.
