Freedom Trolley - Flow Problem Fixed New
« on: August 08, 2015, 05:19:39 pm »
Had a problem this week not experienced before. I like to run my flow flat out and work quick. Works well for me. About mid week I noticed the flow dropping right off. Battery voltage was at 12.9v so battery wasn't the problem. I noticed small bubbles in the output hose almost all the time so tightened all connections. This didn't fix the problem and it got worse on Thursday, down to just a trickle and I'm cleaning at a snails pace compared to my normal rate. Turned out that the pump was sucking air in through the connections as it couldn't get water through the small intake strainer. It was almost completely blocked. I could barely even suck air through it though it still looked new. Removed it and viola, full flow, better than when new. At 3 months old and nearly £10 + postage to replace, I don't think I'll be replacing it. I've rigged up my own.

Hope this helps anyone having flow problems with their Freedom trolley.

I also use a PF trolley - so thanks for the  advice. Just out of interest how have you rigged up your new intake strainer?

You can use something like this. Put your own filter material in the open end. You will need to put a short piece of pole hose over the barb to make a push fit into the end of the minibore. The black one is a spare piece off of a broken cleantech trigger valve. the white one can be obtained from Gardiners. I used the black one, as I happened to have it lying around, and drilled it out to 5 or 5.5m before fitting it.

I use to buy replacement straniers as when using it as a trolley they use  to fall off/geat broke quite often.
Since  using the pf trolley static in the van with the extended inlet pipe going directly into the tank lid  I tied an old nylon sock to it intstead which works rather well. ;D

Sounds like we'v got the same setup, do you find your hose which goes into your water tank floats about abit? mine does but not sure wether it should be weighted to the bottom of the tank?

I still use it as it came with the none return valve on the end, straneir housing, minus the metal strainer  (now with a sock  filter instead) and the plastict pipe it came with on the outside of the hose so no it don't float about.

All I did was take the inlet hose assembly off the trolley then joined up an extra length of hose to it so it would reach the two tanks I use in the van..

One day I will plumb in the tanks properly if I can be arsed that is ;D

Regarding charging the pf trolley battery I genrally charge it up whilst I'm out working as I mostly do full exterior property cleans so I'm already using the customers power for me guttervac., steamer etc.   ;D

Carrying a charger in the van comes in handy if the pf trolley battery gets low when I'm on the glass too as you can still use the wfp pump whilst it's charging.  You just have to ask the customer nicely to plug it in and I've never had anyone say no.

Mine wasn't the non return type. It was this one:

When lifted out of the barrel, I have never found that the water runs out of the minibore when a strainer is fitted, and even when I run it dry, which I do quite often, it primes real quick with the pole hose removed from the trolley and a finger poked up the hozelok connector anyway.

Just goes to show how old my trolley is as pf don't do that kind of setup anymore.

Yeah, if you have the half inch hose you would probably need to replace it with the minibore to make this kind of strainer work. When I got my first trolley it didn't have any kind of strainer fitted, just a tap which I always thought odd as by the time you got the tap out of the barrel the water had already run out. I purchased an in-line strainer and fitted it to the strut on the side of the trolley and fitted a modified hozelok type water-stop connector ( I dismembered it so that I only had the core part attached) on the end of the hose to stop the water running out. However, it took an age to prime when run dry, probably close to thirty seconds. Lots of hose to fill plus the huge strainer.

These hose end types of strainers on minibore take no time at all to prime. Here's another possibility. You can fill it with whatever filter material does the job, and best of all replace it when necessary.
