60 Day payment
« on: June 05, 2015, 07:55:25 pm »
After I had  completed one of my commercial jobs this afternoon I was approached by a chap in a suit who proceeded to tell me he was the contracts manager and could I send future invoices for his attention.
He then informed me that payments would now be on 60 days for all contractors.
I asked him if he was new to the company to which he replied yes he had started three weeks ago, I then asked him if he was having to wait 60 days for his wage, I don't think he was amused ;D

I would be happy if some of mine paid in 60days.
I don,t know about you  but I have noticed more and more commercial jobs that I do are delaying or being very slow in paying .i have a few monthlys that always  take 6-8 weeks to pay and a weekly job that last paid in April and that was for work carried out in Feb.
Don.t get me wrong I do have some great ones who pay when the glass hasn't even dried :).but some are starting to wind me up.

I know back in the day a lot of companies put payment off for as long as possible as it was better sitting in their
bank accounts earning interest.
But you would think that with interest payments so low these days it wouldn't be worth their while.

As soon as they go over the agreed terms you are allowed by law to charge 8% p.a plus the bank of englands base (0.5%) rate so at the moment 8.5% interest. I have one at the moment that we do several properties for, 90 day payment terms, there at 105 days now. I am seriously considering letting all our larger commercial work go. Vowed when I started to stick to domestics and small commercial, wish I had, we are too busy as it is with these, and I dont need the hassle of chasing commercial payment.
