Hi there everyone, have been viewing this excellent  forum for a while now, so thought I'd run this by you. I went to see a job today and the customer has a 70% leather 30% Cotton shagpile rug that she wants cleaning, it's pretty hammered with a dog urine stain and quite alot of soiling. How would you guys go about cleaning this. It's grey, from Habitat and a couple of years old. Any advice would be appriciated.

Hi,

I have seen one of these in a local rug retailers.  I thought at the time "damn i hope we never see one of these", but contemplated how we would clean it.

I still have absolutely no ideas and have settled on the fact we would walk away if anyone asked us to clean it.

On the flip side, if its a really important client you might want to contact the people at LTT (search the board for leather training).  They are very nice and have helped us in the past.

Thanks for the replies, my first thought was maybe to use host and treat worst areas with leather cleaner. Now I'm beginning to get that run away as fast as you can feeling!!

Suggest she takes it to Johnstons who send their rugs to Franklins in Sheffield, so you save face by displaying professionalism and avoid an awful lot of hassle and possible embarassment.

In the early days, I tackled everything and wasted many hours. At the time, Iragarded it as a learning process, but this forum did'nt exist then.

You're probably right. I was thinking of using Odourless mineral solvent and cleaning it by hand. The customer actually is buying a new rug and wants this one cleaned to put away??? I'll have a chat with her, how much do Franklins charge for a 8x6 rug?
