domain names different to your name
« on: February 07, 2015, 03:40:45 pm »
such as B and Q are www.diy.com

my trading name is h2o window cleaning ... which is a play on the full name of home to office window cleaning but www.h2owindowcleaning.co.uk was taken so went with www.h2oproclean.co.uk which ive had for a few years and done a website thru 1and1 which works ok for me.

Now after 2 years of doing other services going back to basics of just window cleaning as doing other services for a 1 man band pulls me in too many directions and tbh long term money is in the window cleaning so now want "window cleaning" back in the web address.

Managed to get hold of www.reliablewindowcleaning.co.uk which Im thinking will look attractive on a google Adwords advert.

Anyone else not have their name in their web address ?

btw website under going some changes so not finished item

Its a sensible thing to do - I have 3 websites but only one is my trading name,.. the other two are more "Google friendly" domains that contain keywords relevant to my trade.  ;)

is Russ a member on here ....

wont actually do a website in the new name as its not my trading name but will use it to direct Google Adwords to my current website ... the reliable bit is to get their attention  :)

In my area a couple of guys have cottoned onto this.

Place name and service all as the web address.

Will they eventually rank higher than my site? keywords vs keyword website address?

Google doesn't like domain spamming - in previous years having 50 -100 domains pointing to one website was common and used to improve traffic through the site,.. nowdays it'll get you blacklisted - but you're safe enough with 2 or 3 domains & if the domains have the right keywords they can help your ranking.

I always make the google friendly domain the main domain & then the company name one points to it. ;)

google adwords PPC is a waste of time and money. A well designed website with quality and well written content is the key to arriving on the first page of search results.

Not true. My website wasn't anywhere in the search returns for the first year and still isn't for some terms but yet I was and am getting work though PPC. I know for a fact that at least two other window cleaners locally get nothing from theirs. That said, websites return a very small percentage of my new work.

I dont have a web site nor have I used  yellow pages  nor have I leaflet dropped or ever knocked a door to this day , the best ad I have ever used is a sign written van and word off mouth . And I have a good size round

Ad words do work but you have to be really carful.

Window cleaners or window cleaners will see rubbish returns and just an expensive budget used.

I used some really obsecure ones and did well. To the point they were switched off.

Towards the end tho. I expected foul play. 8-10 clicks a day and no calls!
